Because frankly, there's nothing much different about 2008 than 1978 or 1958 except the news.

Pedophiles aren't creeping around every corner just waiting to pounce on every child they see... any more than they ever were. The reality is if your kid is molested (particularly by a stranger) you've won a bit of a bad luck lottery. Hell, the actuaL statistics on child abduction are pretty much on par with the lottery.

The majority of people you meet are just nice people... (as this guy probably is) Many people even like kids, even other people's.

Sure, you have to be cautious... and I'm not even saying parents should have let him tickle their kids, but reacting with "OHMIGOD PEDOFREAK!!!!" and draging cops and courts into it and banning him from the park just sounds like media-fueled hysteria.

If I remember the statistics correctly then the most likely person to molest someone is a relative (I wonder if the parents top the list or not). No need to abduct anyone since the child is usually left with them knowingly by their parents.
