"It's too bad that the city of Wasilla didn't do their homework and secure the land before they began construction," said Kathy Wells, a longtime activist here. "She was not your ceremonial mayor; she was in charge of running the city. So it was her job to make sure things were done correctly."

That's some fine responsibility-minding there, Sarah.

Exactly.

Barack Obama as a Community organizer: as director of the Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland (Roseland, West Pullman, and Riverdale) on Chicago's far South Side. During his three years as the DCP's director, its staff grew from 1 to 13 and its annual budget grew from $70,000 to $400,000, with accomplishments including helping set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization... (link(p))

Palin as a community organizer but with actual responsibilities: debts and lawsuits.

cameroncrazy1984: It is the tip of the iceberg. How much other stuff did she start, take credit for, and then not finish?

I agree, and I'm going to be a jerk and quote my post from the other greenlighted thread. Sorry...

I'll say...I've been one of the most vocal detractors of Sarah Palin. I think she's smug and pushy - I don't like her politics and I don't like her extreme pro-life stance, her alleged attempts to censor books (or inquire about censoring them)...fact is, based on ALL the things out there - a mix of true and untrue - I just don't like her.

BUT...nobody in business makes perfect deals all the time. I think what's important to know here - and we don't have the details yet - is did she do her due dilligence? Did she listen to experts and advisors or did she just assume she knew what she was doing? Presidents and Vice Presidents don't - or shouldn't act unilaterally on anything. Good managers and good politicians usually have good people around them - very few succeed when they assume they know everything. So I'm going to give her a pass on this one. I still wouldn't vote for McCain/Palin if you told me it would bring about world peace. I think their whole convention was a disgrace - the tone was nasty and the use of 9/11 and terrorism to attack the Democrats was disgusting. In the larger picture - along with the alleged abuses of power and conflicts of interest - this may be significant, but I'm not going to get worked up over it. That said - as long as she continues to hide from the media and deny the public the opportunity to hear what she has to say, I will have zero respect for her or her party. This election is FOR THE PEOPLE - we have a right to hear from the candidates. Her honesty and character have been called into question - if she refuses to address it then I will have to draw my own conclusions and based on what I saw the other night she's not getting the benefit of the doubt.

I'm beginning to rethink my criticism of the "hide Palin from the media and don't let her answer questions" strategy from the McCain camp.

It doesn't seem to stopping people from asking questions. If she wants to let others define her...that'd be just fine!

This is sort of like not taking the stand in your own trial. I know it's probably good legal strategy, but the trouble is that I think a lot of people just sort of assume you're guilty and have something to hide. This is the court of public opinion - and I think it's what killed Kerry to some degree...rather than getting in front of the accusations and attacks he largely ignored it aside from some weak protests. I think it's a risky strategy - especially coming from somebody that described herself as a pitbull with lipstick. If you're so tough and ready to fight then let's see what you can do with your own words. If she's as prepared and ready to discuss the issues as they claim, then let's get it on. Until then I assume she's still being taught the difference between Sunni and Shia.

Well, there was the whole leaving the town in debt once she left too. You know, AFTER securing earmark money for the town. Oops.

Well, she DID have an administrator that she hired...unless of course you operate under the idea that the buck sort of stops at the executive in charge, as opposed to the flunkies who sort of assume that you know what you're doing...

I'm just amused by the eminent domain portion of the show. Good to see that she really respects property rights--except, you know, when it gets in the way of stuff.

I'm thinking more city manager than mayor. We are dealing with the same kind of fark up here on a garbage dump...Previous mayor thought it was going to make tons of $ for the city. Trouble was the surrounding land owners said they didn't want it. He dug his heels in and now, 4 years later you can buy 1000 or so acres of unused land for $460,000. The (old) city attorney and still in office) city manager are mostly to blame IMO. Mayor got runn-oft.
