I would call it coming to his senses; but I get your point, Subby (R).

Obama is so confused and stupid that he doesn't know what is going on or what he is doing. He does not have strong ideas or patriotism on his side, only some of the states.

er... you realize he still has efforts in all 50 states, right? he has campaign offices in all the states, and he's spent money in all the states.

he's just not an idiot, so he's targeting his spending, and especially his time, in the states where he feels he needs to spend them the most.

McCain flip-flopped on everything that once defined him as an admirable person.

I can live with Obama's flips-flops.

That would be 57 states, you dumbass subby.

GAT_00 [TotalFark] 2008-09-06 11:03:03 PM
Not sure how this means he's stopped the 50 state strategy, it says he's concentrating in Ohio.

dletter [TotalFark] 2008-09-06 11:04:48 PM
One, as someone else pointed out, Obama DOES have offices in every state (although, I'd guess every presidential campaign has, even if they are just 2 guys in Cheyenne who get together once a month to say "Go Obama!"). But, it is a presence.

Also, just because Obama doesn't show up, maybe Biden, or Michelle Obama, or Hillary, will show up in Idaho, or Wyoming, etc. That would put at least the "50 state" plan in action, without 'wasting' Obama there.

But, what it really comes down to, the Electoral College makes running for president like an elaborate video game, and it doesn't make sense to go after the virtually impossible to get purple key if you don't need that key to get to the next level of the game.

Please share your proof on his lack of patriotism.

Well, since you can't, as much as I can't judge the patriotism of ANY PERSON that hasn't been convicted of a crime against the United States, then perhaps you should know what patriotism is:

Definition: : love for or devotion to one's country

Here's patriotism in action: Link (Maj. David Frakt)

muck4doo: That would be 57 states, you dumbass subby.

Actually, he said he's been to 57 states and there's 1 still to go and he wasn't allowed to go to Hawaii and Alaska.

So, he actually was really wrong in believing there were 60 states.

If you're going to make a silly comment based on a months old gaffe, at least get the thing right.

jerry2a 2008-09-06 11:40:39 PM
But he flipped flopped on his campaign strategy!

Yawn...let me know when he reneges on a promise or flip-flops on an issue. If McCain said he was going to campaign in East Bumblefark then changed his mind would anybody care? I wouldn't. I would think that submittroll would be happy that he's completely abandoning his campaign strategy of winning all 50 states...I mean - you guys want him to lose, right?

hey guys... has anyone considered this? maybe the submitter ran across the article and just tried to convey the message of the linked article rather than his own personal beliefs with the headline? nah, that's probably unpossible

though it is amusing to watch the "anti-obama" threads get voted down while the "anti-palin" threads get voted up

i submitted exactly two headlines tonight - both went green. i'm good with that

That's because, unlike my Republican friends, Obama knows that the national popular vote doesn't mean shiat. Electoral votes are the key to the White House and right now he's on track to win them by a sizable margin.

Cinaed 2008-09-07 12:27:58 AM
I wasn't aware the Democrats had suspended activities in all fifty states.

Good point though. Foolish to spread yourself equally across fifty states when there are only a handful that are on the cusp of going one way or the other.

The fact that the 50 state strategy is an actual strategy instead of the norm shows just how divided the United States are. Some people in some parts of the country are so damned stupid that they'll refuse to vote for an R or a D because its an R or a D. Their opinions on taxing and government spending are essentially the same, yet that's the only thing I ever hear either side bring up.

Republicans don't want the socialist, tax and spend democrats in office.

Democrats don't want the fascist, state religion republicans in office.

Both are too stupid to realize that both parties are increasing the size of government and widening the deficit. Obama is widening it less, at least, but it's still getting bigger. Maybe if, instead of whining about everything the other party was doing wrong, people started looking at what their own party was doing wrong, we'd have a lot more accountability and a much more efficient, smaller government.

I prefer pollster. It doesn't assign the swing states where polls are within the margin of error.

In most presidential campaigns of the past there have been states which did not get campaign offices, because there is no chance that the candidate is winning that state (or no way that the candidate is NOT winning the state).

Dean changed that when he became the chairman of the DNC and started efforts to open offices in each state, and from that infrastructure Obama has been able to grow a 50-state organization.

Maybe it's because he thought he was a shoo-in for the win and now that the race has changed a little he has to focus a little better and get somewhat realistic about the fact that this won't be a gimme.

lexslamman 2008-09-07 12:37:02 AM
50 state strategy sound nice and populist and Democratic, but it is more reasonable to apportion resources towards the swing states at this point while using volunteer power and registration efforts to try to make surprising gains elsewhere. With this unsurprising and totally expected strategic shift, you have to think that Obama increases his chances.

He's still working with the leg-up on EC tallies, but it's a far more rational move to focus his efforts, spending, and presence in the states that are borderline his, or on the fence.

Bad move on Obama to tie himself to one strategy exclusively, although as others have said, I don't doubt for an instant that the campaign's efforts elsewhere are in full swing.

Is this the part where I point out that you don't split the electoral votes in the general election like you do in the (democratic) primaries?

I don't think a black man running for president of the U.S. will ever assume the election is a "gimme." The absurd reaction to Palin, the complete and total manufacturing of her into someone important and revolutionary, even caught me by surprise, so I'm sure Obama is having to make some adjustments accordingly (although he certainly doesn't have to worry about the electoral impact of Alaska). I can't believe we're even having serious conversations about Palin -- she should have been laughed right off of the damn ticket. Instead we have this fake fawning over her by the Republican leadership and the right wing pundits... Like Bush, they're taking someone completely unqualified for the job and building her up into a rockstar.

It's like watching a record label assemble the next boy band group -- it's all hype and marketing.
