Funny.
I love Jesse.

he's considering running for president in 2012 to tap into some of the ron paul crowd. that would be awesome, and i think he might actually be able to get some traction if the republicans are still as down and out then.

Jesse Ventura
Party: Libertarian
Stance on gays: Wide

Um Yeah 2008-09-06 11:36:34 PM
Is it that surprising?

The guys is not a closet case nor is he concerned about looking weak to other guys.

IMHO those are the only gays who give a shiat about the issue.

Nickers 2008-09-06 11:38:02 PM
I'm not a huge Jesse Ventura fan, but I agree with what he said in this article. And good on him for saying so. The US government needs to make it legal and then leave gay people alone. As Jesse said, if they want to go in the military and serve, who cares as long as they do their job?

George Carlin gave a similar answer on the Dennis Miller show in the 90's. "More Pussy for ME!"

Probably very little since ole Jessie has gone over to the nutty truther side. He and Ron Paul could run together and create a great whirlpool of crazy.

/Ain't got time to be sane.

I'm a hardcore socialist, but if I were to vote for someone right of center, it would be Jesse Ventura.

Don't agree with him on everything, but at least he isn't a smug closet-fag racist like Republicans are.

One of my BF's best friends is a gay guy he met while a marine. As he puts it "Sully actually got less gay jokes than the rest of us".

You probably don't want to gay bash this guy, as he's a Marine Corps combat veteran.

/on second thought, please homophobes, pick a fight w/ this guy.

Sick... how?
Explain. Y'know, if you're able to without quoting scripture.
Or how gays or lesbians aren't really citizens and thus aren't entitled to equitable options, choices, rights, and treatment.

I say no scripture, because that's not the law of the land.
And to preempt one fallacy before it gets touted, many of the founding fathers were Deist, not Christian.

Okay.... GO!

I hope he runs for pres. If he makes his intentions clear early enough, the effort will be put in to get him on the ballot. He's no Ralph Nader where you could just keep him out of the debates either, He'd either show up anyway and push his way onto the stage, plucking out tazer darts while screaming "I'm a navy sealllll!"

Or, He'd find his way onto all the cable news shows calling the other two candidates salty vaginas. Either way, I don't see how you can ignore him.

I don't know if I'd want him to win, but having a 3rd man up there calling "bullshiat" whenever it comes out would be a win for everyone.

This is the kind of "macho" man that people should be following rather than the fake swagger of fake cowboys who pretend to be Texan. Or some corrupt politician who suffers from mental problems from being tortured and pretends to be a tough reformer.

At least Obama goes for the "I'm smart so vote for me" line and avoids the whole issue. But if the choice was among people who think they are manly men, I'll vote for Ventura (though he can't govern worth shiat)

Oddly enough, all the Minnesotans I know (all three of them) loved this guy as governor despite the fact that they didn't vote for him and originally thought electing a wrestler made their state a laughingstock

Ventura is probably the best governor to ever star in the film Predator (though if he ran, Carl Weathers would probably be more fiscally responsible)

what's funny is if the republicans wouldn't insist we spend so god damned much on our military, we could probably afford very progressive domestic policies without raising taxes. and we'd probably be safer.

Most governors just skate by with bloated budgets and never really accomplish anything. Ventura has a genuine legacy after one term: the Hiawatha light rail line. It's short, but is the first real mass transit system in Minnesota and exceeded all rider estimates. A partisan couldn't/wouldn't have accomplished that.

The whole "Gay Marriage" issue is fascinating to me because I can think of no other policy debate that is so obviously self-negating. When the right-wingers say that marriage is a religious institution (man and woman leave there families and cleave unto one another, etc.) they are right. There can, by definition, be no such thing as a gay marriage. But since marriage is a religious institution, the American government can't recognize it at all. Not to say that gay couples shouldn't have the same rights as straight couples (estate, taxes, and so forth) but due to separation of church and state, the government has no business being in the marriage business.

That being said, I'd rather see Ventura as President than either of the guys on the ballot this year.

I get the point you're tying to make, but this part? Not so much.

Marriage existed long before any formalized religion, and is not now, nor has it ever been at any point in the history of the world, been a solely, or proprietorially religious institution.

It has also FYI been defined at many points in history as many things other than, "one man and one woman".
