I call shenanigans. I didn't see Linkin Park or Blink 182 on any of those lists.

Or Limp Bizkit.

I call shenanigans. Some of those lists have bands I've actually heard of.

One of those dudes picked Arcade Fire (#6 on his list). That band is probably the most over-rated in the whole world right now.

The Clash only appeared once on those lists? WTF?

It's an epic win for me, I never liked them.

/Thats not to say I don't appreciate that they were pretty good live.

Not cool enough for English rock writers.

As it is a personal list I won't judge it too harshly. Would have liked to see Muse mentioned though...

I think calling Arcade Fire the 6th greatest band of all time is just him trying to justify his job as a shiatty NME music critic.

Queen became hugely popular in spite of being critically loathed, and their music will continue to be loved by millions of fans all over the world when half of the bands on these douchebag's lists are completely forgotten.

/Nothing against the fine bands on the lists

I'd like to know why Noel left the Stone Roses off his list. I like the La's, too, but come on. I bet that someone in the Roses pissed him off somewhere along the line. It wasn't all that long ago that he considered them the total godhead. (Maybe I'm thinking of his brother, I dunno.)

None of the bands in any of these farkers top 10 has a singer as good as Freddie Mercury. Period. I don't give a good god shiat what anyone else has to say about it.

That said. I agree with a lot of their choices in general. One of them even put the Beach Boys as #1. With Pet Sounds, that's tough to argue against.

Homos or not, the Smiths were awesome. Johnny Marr had ten times more balls on the guitar than any hair-metal balladeer.

romanmaronie 2008-09-07 05:33:18 AM
The Smiths only had one "homo", as if that really means anything. And they were better than most American bands from the same time. At least they were doing something new and different. And literate. During the period of hair metal, they were a breath of fresh air. Not that the Pixies, the Replacements, or Husker Du weren't kicking ass. Or the Cars. Lots of great stuff, but don't just give the Smiths crap if you don't know them. Glad some other people loved Teenage Fanclub. Bandwagonesque FTW. A Cobain favorite, too. Sorry for the crappy writing. It's late and I'm drunk.
