rick rolling rules!

Awesome.

It's nice to see an 80's icon who isn't completely bent out of shape over the use of their material in one of the greatest jokes of all time.

Unlike Heart and the RNC.

Hoo boy, I have my window open and I am blasting that song and I am rick rolling the world. THe pwnage here is amazing and all those plebes out there don't even know it.

Hiymenator [TotalFark] 2008-09-06 12:40:12 PM
When Astley was on Kimmell, he talked about other "Rolls" as well.

/he was genuinely perplexed by the "Barack Roll" then

You don't really expect me to click on that, do you?

John McCain got rickrolled, and the cognitive dissonance gave him an episode of dementia.

I clicked on it for old times sake. Haven't been rick rolled in quite a while.

I have more respect for him than many other musicians. He took the joke in stride and hasn't demanded royalties or anything. It is almost as if he realizes music should be enjoyed, even if done in a strange way.

Oh, come on, the best of all is the Muppet Beaker Rick Roll.

I think I'll be the guy who spoils it and tells you that it is indeed safe to click on.

I pity you if you think Rick Rolling is one of the greatest jokes of all time.

AntonSzandorLaVey [TotalFark] 2008-09-06 01:06:22 PM
Here's some of the better ones, as spoken about in the article (not a rick roll. Well, I guess technically it is, but, well, you know what I mean)

Glad to see he's taking it all in stride... even though this is the 1003834th time he's had to put up with this belated interview

I clicked on the link, but with a little bit of trepidation.

/at least he's got a sense of humor
//or should that be humour?

Yea, as if the original wasn't horrific enough. I don't think Rick Astley is amused by all of this. He's just sweeping it under the rug so he doesn't make any more of an asshat spectacle of himself.

Okay, I must be new to the internets because I never saw the Obama Rick Roll.

That's farking funny shiat right there.

Flashblock is my poison-taster for this sort of thing.

But yeah, he does sound like a genuinely cool guy. Hope he (and I) are wrong about Obama's projected longevity.

The guy is over 40 and I would still do him anytime, anywhere.

Considering he has a fear of flying it would probably be somewhere in England.

But seriously--he's so hot.

The guy is actually making a lot of astute comments and observation.

Rick on Obama: "I'd be interested to see what black people in America really see him as - a 'black person' or a democrat who happens to have dark skin. I can't get my head around it. I also have a horrible feeling that he won't last very long. It's kind of depressing."

When I read this, it was kind of sobering. I hear about stuff at work about how my co-workers wish Obama would be assassinated or whatever. For no real reason other than him being a black guy as President. I hear whispers and things like that behind my back on how they think Obama is the anti-christ and a whole bunch of other crap that's very WHARRGARBL worthy. But when I see the same 'what if' scenario coming from Rick Astley, it's just kind of sobering to me. It always seems that genuinely nice people preaching hope, peace, and change to society always end up going before their time (MLK, Ghandi, etc.), and if Obama does end up getting elected, I'm really hoping his name won't be added to the list.

There was an interesting blurb in the NYT a while back - Rickroll with The Punches.

That's different. When a political candidate uses a band's music, it's an implied endorcement by the band of the candidate. If the members in the band are in fact is supporting the other guy, they have the absolute right to get pissed off about it.

I think the Muppet Show Rick Roll with Beaker singing the song is one of the best. It really looks like that was the way the skit was originally produced.

I gotta say kudos to Rick for not being a dick about it and taking it all with good humour. Seems like he'd be a really nice guy to hang with.

Rick: "But I said no thanks - it's been nice to be forgotten."

1. He is deeply depressed and lives in a soul-sucking pool of self-loathing and forgotten dreams.

2. He's actually intelligent and moves on with his life once his fame time is finished.

Either way, rock.
