A couple of little picky points:
Don't link directly to page two.
When you go to submit a link, why not look for the little link marked "print" at the top or bottom. Very often, it gives you the article in a neat, all one page format, usually without ads. Like this:
http://www.salon.com/tech/col/smith/2008/07/11/askthepilot283/print.html (new window)

Oh, and this article is why we need a "Duh" tag for Fark. I think we could probably make a policy that anyone who passes the psychological screening for TSA should NEVER be allowed to work with people. Call it the "Little Tin Gods With Delusions Of Adequacy" test, or something.

Seriously, folks. We're trusting our lives to a bunch of people who 1) eagerly accept and enforce utterly mindless "no tolerance" rules, and who 2) were unable to get a job anywhere else.

And any TSA screener who wants to post here to say "I wanted to take a job where I feel up people all day long, take their property, am constantly vilified, and win every argument", well, you just described why you shouldn't be allowed to do it.

Well, it's a good thing that we have the GOP this past week to tell us that they're going to clean up wasteful government like the DHS and TSA, bloated bureaucracies created by the... wait, I'm confused.

I treat them the same way you'd treat any large, stupid beast - keep a respectful distance and let them graze calmly in a field. They're brutal, but stupid and easily distracted by flashy colors and shiny objects. Use that to your advantage. Try to find a way to make them feel as if they've won and are in control, and they'll happily let you bring an AK-47 onboard your carry on luggage.

I work for TSA and I'm really............. oh hell that was just so messed up. I really don't know what that screener and Sup were thinking.

I have crew members some though my checkpoint all day every day and I've never had this kind of problem.

If you can always travel though a small airport, you get treated so much better and it's a hell of alot faster, plus we like to try to use common sense and try to keep the crazy screeners in check.

Which they helped create and are responsible for maintaining.
Misuse of the word "has" should be "is" and/or always has been.
Not one politician, I refuse to use the word "leader", with the brains or balls to tell these animals that they do not have a million terrorist suspects, not yours.

Okie Cynic 2008-09-06 01:23:47 PM
they're raising the prices and cutting the services, and the tsa is doing their part to discourage the common herd from air travel.

soon only the rich will fly, just as god intended, just as it was in the beginning. then will be restored the beautiful, available "stewardesses" to replace the godawful "flight attendants", and luxury air travel will return to replace the airborne cattle cars.

the rich will once again be able to enjoy flying as it was meant to be.

I vaguely remember a thread about a woman not being allowed on a plane on account of nipple-piercings - even though she agreed to show them to prove they weren't weapons.

There was this one farker who showed up to defend the knuckle-dragger TSA mentality - who was that guy?

SciHobo 2008-09-06 01:25:03 PM
The TSA people really depend on the airports. You go somewhere like Phoenix, and they're nothing less than terrifying. "Airport Nazi's" is a more accurate description. You go to Chicago, and they all look about 14 years old and are more laid back. You go to your local airports, and they're generally MUCH more friendly and laid back.

But yeah, they need some freaking reasonable freakin oversight.

bunner [TotalFark] 2008-09-06 01:26:01 PM
Backscatter scanners.

Coming soon to an airport near you.

That way they can see if you have anything worth stealing on your person, not just your baggage.

Anyone actually defending the TSA is a closet machoist who feels intense sexual satisfaction from being beaten and humiliated in public. Which, I suppose, is just fine and all....but what's offensive is that they expect everyone ELSE to enjoy body cavity serches and to like the latex lifestyle.

Maybe that's why the Phoenix TSA is so cranky, they have to sit around and look at average Americans naked all day because they already have the backscatter machines.

That's not a proposition I like, even for the occasional hot chick.

BWI, on the other hand, dude was YELLING at me. For no reason. I had nothing in my pockets, no belt, no reason why i'd make the metal detector beep. I'm like 'just wand me, and prove to everyone around here that i'm wearing an underwire bra' What a dick.

Weaver95 nails it! I work with livestock frequently, and I fly incessantly on business. I do treat TSA drones just like I'm working with horses. No sudden moves, do the things they expect in order to not agitate them, etc. I don't care what they do, since I'm paid big bucks to fly places. If they refuse to let me fly, they can explain their reasoning to the defense Department...

most people aren't lucky enough to have that kind of leverage over those TSA goons.

There about 2 weeks ago. Terminal 3. Was the only time I got harassed by the TSA for "Sitting in one spot" for too long. I had to take a shuttle to the airport and wait 3 hours for a flight. Apparently that's suspicious.

Remember after 9/11 it was the Democrats who demanded they become unionized federal employees with little accountability . Norman Mineta a 20 year Democrat congressman from the San Francisco Bay Area was the Secretary of Transportation at the time. So yes you can blame the democrats for the farked up TSA employees.

In the Bay Area those farkup's make between 35 & 60k a year.

Was screening at Charlotte. TSA lady asked me to show her my ticket. I placed it in front of her, folded up. She barked at me to open it up for her. I told her to do it herself. She said "that's not my job". I asked her if it was too difficult of a task. "Not my job," she barked again and gave me a look like she'd get her friends to do a "thorough" search if I didn't listen. I suggested they should add it to her job description, which was apparently sitting in a chair and looking at tickets, unable to open them herself, perhaps because it was too much for her to comprehend. She just stared as if she didn't understand sentences more than four words long. I then opened the ticket for her, showed my ID, and made my way through the maze they call screening. I really enjoyed that moment with the TSA and look forward to the next opportunity to witness overinflated beaurocracy at its finest.

I keep saying it.
TSA is doing a wonderful yob!!!
Exactly the job it was designed to do.
The real job @ TSA is to introduce CONTROL to the American population thru a rewrite of personal freedoms that were unpossible before 9/11.
Secondary goal, prepare the airline industry/population for Federalization.

Viewed w/ these goals in mind, it makes a kind of perfect sense.
Come on, NOBODY can really be that stupid to spend all that nice money to do what TSA does unless it was intended. Not even Bushie's orderlies. The GOP does not piss money away, they just lie about the agenda.

Cuchulane [TotalFark] 2008-09-06 01:46:56 PM
**Note to our presidential candidates - first one with the balls to promise to dismantle the TSA wins in a landslide.
