Ahhh yes. Class warfare. The lowest common denominator in politics. People sitting around biatching about the things their neighbor has, doing nothing to attain that level for themselves and looking for someone to take from the neighbor and give it to them.

Ya gotta love it.

By a margin of 69-28, Americans agree that the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

69% are right.

Since 1975, practically all the gains in household income have gone to the top 20% of households.

That's because the "rich" keep doing the things that made them "rich" (work, invest, save, etc.)while the "poor" keep doing the things that made them "poor" (don't work, squander, accumulate debt, have babies they can't afford, etc.).

Actually, it's because people make choices that keep them poor.

The 2 biggest poor choices that have lifetime effects are:

-Dropping out of school
-Having children before they can afford them

Both of these things are not my fault or yours. So stop blaming me and confiscating my income to endlessly throw money at people that make bad choices.

I agree. I am sick and tired of these poor lazy bums always complaining because their jobs all got sent abroad, that their wages have been forced into stagnation so it doesn't hurt profit margins, even though the price of food and fuel has increased well above the price of inflation and then they have the gall to moan they can't afford a house, even with working two or three jobs. If they wanted a house they should have inherited their money or saved for an accounting to play the system.

There's nothing at all wrong with being rich. Especially if you live responsibly and wisely, work hard and seek opportunity. If ever there has been a country in the history of the world where that option is open to any and everyone, it's the United States of America. Too many people have come from nothing and achieved great wealth with honesty and integrity for that not to be true.

It's too bad that we foster a mentality that wants to demonize, then penalize those who achieve their dreams and enjoy success. The tactics are remarkably similar to the ones Lenin used 100 yrs ago.

/I'm not rich, but I applaud anyone who gets rich through hard work and integrity. It gives hope to those who still are trying.

Also, the much discussed "income gap" does not mean the poor are getting poorer.

Take the average "poor" person today and compare them to 100 years ago and they are living a live that in 1908 would have been considered amazing wealth and luxury.

The poor are getting rich slower than the rich, because they are not working towards it.

Where do you live that pure hard work and dedication are all you need to get the American Dream? I know a lot of people here in Michigan who would just love to cash in on that. Then again they're probably whiners who don't live up to your standards. Half of them don't have jobs, and the other half are scraping by on two jobs each, but obviously they just need to work harder.

Sure, they spent their entire lives working for Ford or GM, or opened their own auto repair business and successfully ran it for decades, but it's their fault that they have to bag groceries and work at McDonalds now. And those kids who have to compete against people with 30 years of job experience for entry level positions? Probably their fault for being born on the wrong state. God obviously knew that they were going to be sinners, so he sent them to Flint as punishment.

Jobs and job markets change all the time, and inflation is always present to some degree. That's life and will not change based on some utopian wet dream or some infantile illusion of fairness. Success comes from planning and being prepared for the inevitable. The vast majority of people who are poor today, will become middle-class unless they choose to sit on their ass and wait for sometthing that will never come.

I dunno, i work 40+ hours a week, i am also taking 9 credits of grad school , paying mostly out of pocket to avoid loans. I have been doing this for years to try and get ahead, and you know what? The debt from the classes keeps piling up, and i am not really getting ahead, though i work really hard.

And its not like i am a social worker or anything. I have a BS in Chemistry, and will have a masters in coatings. One day, i'd like to earn a PhD in materials science.

But the costs of achieving those goals will likely ever exceed the rewards.

I imagine that is true for most of the other poor too.

Inyego: Perhaps it's because the rich keep doing things that attract wealth

Yeah, like, lowering, or stagnating the wages of their employees, or simply firing them in order to hire lower paid lackeys who won't ever advance.

Becoming wealthy most often requires discipline and hard work

My last boss' story. : Met the former owner of the company on a flight to a trade show. Hired him as a salesman, and 4 years later turned the company over to him. (1.5mil in yearly profits)
The guy clearly has no concept of the products he sells, the infrastructure that supports them, doesn't understand what his technicians do or know relative to the work place that keeps his checks rolling in.

His typical day: Athletic club for pick up basket ball 4 days a week till 10am. Get to the office at 11am, go to lunch from Noon to 2pm, leave at 3. Work from home on Friday, or really when ever the hell he felt like it.

Meanwhile, he didn't pay employee year end bonuses last year to buy himself an Audi A8 (The $90,000 version) and balked at giving me a raise of a mere 5k that would have actually put me at a wage that followed my experience level.

Anyways, Any retard can own a business, I've come to see this now, so just because you're pulling in million dollar paychecks doesn't really mean you've done anything more than anyone else.

There are just as many idiots with money as there are without. How much money you have or make, or owning a business doesn't mean you're better than those who don't.

I've met plenty of slackers making big bucks off the backs of their employees.

Take my example above, the dude was a class A douchenozzle.
