I'll call it the First Church of the Fabulous Lisp.

Services will take place in a giant bathtub.

Ex-Gay conversion is harmful, bigoted pseudo-science just like everything else the Religious Right pumps out.

Changing sexual orientation: A consumers' report.
In this study, 202 consumers of sexual orientation conversion interventions were interviewed to answer these questions. The results indicated that a majority failed to change sexual orientation, and many reported that they associated harm with conversion interventions.

Sexual orientation conversion therapy for gay men and lesbians: A scientific examination(pdf)
An examination of the literature shows that not only are conversion therapies unethical and professionally irresponsible[...]but they additionally constitute inadequate and questionable science[...]Both of the ethical and scientific perspectives [discussed] offer ample and sound justification for abandoning conversion techniques.

Also from your article: Both EmmonsThe Librarian and Stambaugh had publicly supported him against Palin.

That's probably a large part of why Palin wanted her gone. However, that's no reason to fire a librarian. Many, many people are "appointees" in government; yet, from one partisan administration to the next many people are kept. Bush kept some of Clinton's people, and Obama or McCain will keep some of Bush's.

"Cleaning house" isn't a reason to fire a librarian. She wasn't political glut. She wasn't economic glut. She was a librarian, doing her job. Palin is a douche for doing that. And after having lived in a small town, she is an even bigger douche, because small town life is hard and even when your enemies annoy you, you generally learn to deal with them, not eliminate them. What Palin did- attempting to put a woman into economic hardship in Alaskan job conditions for political reasons- in small town terms, is the epitomy of douche.

If gay people can be converted into straights, can straights be converted into gays?

Does it happen all of a sudden? Or is it a gradual development? You know, in high school you're the star quarterback.

Then, later you're watching Monday Night Football as usual..and then you're noticing the quarterback's ass.

Nine weeks later, the police arrest you for giving head at rest stop bathrooms. If only you'd turned to Jesus before it got too late and the semen crossed your lips!

they take the cock out of their mouth or come up from a sloppy vag sandwich and just say "gosh darnit, I think I'm going to switch sides this week, this is getting old".

My worry about the opposite of that is that if being gay is not a learned behavior then it's most likely a genetic thing. Some people of a certain discriminative ilk might think of it as a "defect". Perhaps there would be a genetic test developed that could determine that.

Granted that would put the pro-life crowd in a pickle.

1. Abort a gay child
2. Keep your gay child and deal with their "wickedness"

Can I suggest that we mail candidate Palin, this list?

Top Ten Reasons to Make Gay Marriage Illegal

01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all like many of the principles on which this great country was founded; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of marriages like Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Trust me, it's not "learned" and it's not voluntary.

I tried for 6 years to be straight, and failed miserably.. hurting a lot of people along the way. When I finally accepted who I was, life was much much easier.

There is a third possibility- that it is a "learned" thing that takes place early in the development of an individual's sexuality but is then more or less hardwired.

That's really not that far off from what we know about how people's sexual tastes develop. Whether or not you like big or small breasts, short or tall women, etc., are certainly not genetic, but they are learned at an early age and then more or less set in stone once you're an adult. A person's like or dislike for sexual partners of a particular gender seems to fit in perfectly with the development all your other conceptions of what is or isn't sexually attractive. And before some one says it, the sexual urge is something completely different from the desire to reproduce. It's the difference between being sexually attracted to a person and wanting to have a baby with them.

FTA:
Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, said Ms. Palin had been baptized Roman Catholic as an infant, but declined to comment further.

"We're not going to get into discussing her religion," she said.

In the address at the Assembly of God Church here, Ms. Palin's ease in talking about the intersection of faith and public life was clear. Among other things, she encouraged the group of young church leaders to pray that "God's will" be done in bringing about the construction of a big pipeline in the state, and suggested her work as governor would be hampered "if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."

I'm the only gay Eskimo
I'm the only one I know
I'm the only gay Eskimo
In my tribe

I go out seal hunting with my best friend Tarka
But all want to do is get into his parka

I'm the only gay Eskimo
In my tribe

Well me and Nukflukchukbuk
We both like blubber
But me I've got this crazy fetish for rubber

I'm the only gay Eskimo
In my tribe

I make a wish on the Northern Lights
That I can find a decent pair of whaleskin tights

I'm the only gay Eskimo
In my tribe

And the seals they sing now...
[seal noises]

These cold winter nights
Are taking their toll
I even get excited when I see the North Pole
See the North Pole...

I'm the only gay Eskimo
Only gay Eskimo
I'm the only one I know
The only one I know-oh-oh-oh
I'm the only gay Eskimo
In my tribe
