Blind Lemon?

OoO. Mod edit!

Anyway, I disagree w/ Blind Melon. Shannon Hoons mother got on stage to endorse the band during their first show.

The the kicker

^ Nico Hoon sings w/ the reformed band. Very sad and very very right.

two things-
One- WOW, old news is SO EXCITING!

Two- I've heard clips of them performing with DuVall... He's good. DAMN good.

I saw that before the mods changed it. I thought Evan Dando was taking Shanoon's place/

I'm wary of this news. AiC was, in part, a great band because of Layne's personal struggles which he sung about and which gave AiC its identity. Jerry Cantrel is an amazing songwriter but it'd be a shame if this record turns out to be his 3rd album under the name Alice in Chains. If that turns out to be the case I'd much rather him continue to release his solo stuff and let AiC be in the past.

Still, I wouldn't say I am not excited. Jerry Cantrell's last 2-CD release was superb if that's any indication of how this new AiC stuff will turn out.

Scary thought!!

Okay, while we're in the headline-fixin' mood, did anyone want to spell Layne's last name correctly, too?

...no?

...okay.

I'm not so sure about that.

I saw them in concert with William DuVall and he was great.
It was a hellva show.

I saw Cantrell perform shortly after Layne kicked the bucket. The AIC tunes he did in the set were phenomenal. way, way beyond my expectations.
I'm looking forward to the new stuff.

Without Layne Staley, it ain't Alice in Chains. End of frickin' story.

They're a kick ass band, but they ain't AIC. AIC died in 2002. Best of luck to the remaining band members, but they ain't AIC.

Rooster lives.

The Rooster is Jerry Cantrell's father, I think.

Considering he wasn't the songwriter and only half of their unique sound...eh, not so much the end.

Cantrell is the driving force in AiC and the new singer is pretty damn good.

They kinda did. Back In Black was written while Bon was still alive. That was their opus. It was so great, they got someone else to come in and sing it and it still hit. Don't get yer panties in a bunch though. Johnson's fine, he's just no Bon Scott.

morphius501 [TotalFark] 2008-09-06 02:12:56 AM
I don't see why they'd need to pick up another singer. Cantrell is awesome. Solo and with AIC.

The music may have been written while Bon Scott was alive, but
Brian Johnson wrote all the lyrics on said album.

Saw AIC with the new singer in Austin a couple of times. He aint Layne but he's great in his own right. I love AIC....one of my favorite bands.

Got Me wrong
Dirt
Sea of Sorrow

Hell yea I'm gonna rock out to some chains right now!

Gratch 2008-09-06 09:12:37 AM
I have little doubt the new album will be great, since Jerry has always been the main songwriting force, and the new guy is really, really good.

Unfortunately, AiC died with Layne. No matter what they release, it's simply not AiC without him.

Hey, can I ask a somewhat off-topic question? I'm 17, and I perfer Brian Johnson AC/DC to Bon Scott AC/DC. Is that wrong?

/Looking forward to new AIC joint
//And playing Man in the Boxin Rock Band 2

funktilious_j 2008-09-06 01:28:48 PM
I think the album will be good, Jerry is a dark mofo, great songwriter. But my favorites by AiC have always been the songs Layne wrote the lyrics for. I can't see anyone else singing "Hate to Feel" or "Junkhead". Those songs move me because he sang them about himself and his descent, that pain was his.

No, you get points for thinking AC/DC is cool. Bon Scott was pretty awesome, though.

I know Catrell is a hell of a songwriter, and those harmonies were amazing...but Staley was the voce of AiC for me; I don't know if i can stand a Layne-less AiC

Man, I have tough time listening to AiC now, not that I don't still dig them....it's just that Layne's life was so sad & it ended very badly. So when I hear him signing Godsmack, Sea of Sorrow or Dirt....it's tough to enjoy the songs when I know he really felt what he was singing...so much so that it killed him. When you hear him laying out his misery on those tracks & you know how the story ends.....it's tough to enjoy.

Jerry Cantrell is awesome & I hope the best for AiC....it'd be a fitting tribute to Layne & he deserves it.

R.I.P. Layne...
