The reason why no-one has dethroned them as metal gods is that the genre is back where it should be, performers and traders.

This

AND

Death Magnetic is "good", even many elitists like it (it leaked earlier this week). The only bad part about the album is the production, which should make it sound "rawer" and "amateurish", but when you have as much money as Metallica, you aren't fooling anybody.

The death of Burton during the subsequent tour threatened to derail them, but they soldiered on with the recruitment of Newsted, who made his debut on ... And Justice for All. (As part of the hazing of the new member, his bass playing was mixed to inaudible levels on the album.)

That story pisses me off every time I see it.

Metallica (while slicing off nose): Take that, face!

I'm a better guitarist then Hammett

Have you heard the versions on Metallica.Com yet? They are WAY better than the stuff that Blabbermouth had on it.

FTA: "Why hasn't anyone dethroned us yet?"

These guys still think of themselves as kings of something? OMFG ROFLMAO.

That's not true - there's just no part where the bass isn't mimicing the guitar lines. Lars has stated for years, he'd give $10k to the first person who found a spot on And Justice where the bass wasn't mimicing one of the guitars.

FTFA: "In the immortal words of Noel Gallagher, I'm gonna live for ever," says Lars Ulrich.

Claiming Noel Gallagher has ever said anything constituting "immortal words" is your first mistake. Second, I'm pretty sure Irene Cara and Merle Haggard (among others) said the same thing, and both said it well before Noel Gallagher did.

Metallica were greats. And while their recent efforts haven't been up to the standards of their early efforts (the exact moment dividing the two is left to the reader), they have been certainly been worthy of some airplay. I have not heard the new album, nor St Anger, so can't weigh in on those, but Load and Reload had some good tracks that I don't mind hearing now and then.

Despite their lack of inspired recordings, they remain one band that I will try to see every time they come to town. No matter what album they're touring behind, they have always put on an incredible, high energy show, with a healthy respect for their past. The cries of "Metallica Sucks" are generally based on politics, which I find as logical a reason as picking football teams for their uniform colors. (I root for the Pats, then whomever is wearing blue, BTW.)

Bob Seger is a musician?

Bob Seger is a musician?

He plays the guitar and piano, so I think that qualifies him as a musician.

Are they not the folks on the throne? Please, provide evidence that supports your claim they are not. Some folks think they are, some folks think they were, if you're part of the second group, instead of biatching about the old days you should be asking why none of the newer bands can surpass the old days.

You could have the best underground metal band in the world, but as long as they're underground, they're not the kings of anything but the underground.

"The day that never comes" is stuck in my head. They've succeed in the product recognition. Not a bad song, really. Cyanide is pretty good too.

It's ok, which means it's 100x better then St. Anger.

As much as a douche that Lars and James are, the new album is VERY good.

Broken, Beat & Scarred and Suicide & Redemption are proof enough that the epic drums and guitar are back. If there was debate on whether they lost their crown, I think it has been reclaimed.

Sort of excited to see this come to Guitar Hero, though absolutely no idea how anyone makes it thru a 7 minute song played at the speed Kirk pulls in solos.
