Holy crap, that's exactly what happened to my wife last night! She fell asleep watching ABC and had it on for his entire speech. She said she kept dreaming some old guy was yelling at her.

/I actually watched on purpose.
//I laughed.

Looks like the viewership numbers accurately represent the voter split the polls show.

Do they include internet viewership?

Which polls show McCain ahead?

I admit, I did not watch McCain's speech. I had work to do and couldn't risk getting tired too early... or sick to my stomach.

DeltaXi65 [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-09-05 04:11:00 PM
The speech was definitely too long. I was almost fell asleep, and my fiancee did. Which sucked, because she missed the best part.

What was "the best part"?

You know, that part where he explained his plan for the economy.

I watched it. Maybe that is because I like to be informed.

The part where he went into detail about his POW experience. That was the most detail I'd ever heard on the experience, and it definitely fleshed it out. After all of the throwaway lines he's made using it, it was good to finally have the opportunity to understand what he went through without rolling my eyes about it.

I tried to, but long day, golf, beer, and football preceded my attempt. And it was boring as hell.

I don't remember much of his speech as I slept right through it and I'm part of the "Whipper-snapper" vote.

/Really

Code_Archeologist [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 04:23:04 PM
I watched the McCain speech... but I was on a plane during the Obama speech and had to watch a recording. The McCain speech was mind numbingly boring compared to Obama's.

After listening to that a while it started to sound like one of my Grandfather's "walked up hill both ways and fought bears to get to school" stories.

I watched the speech. I can understand why people fall asleep listening to him speak.
He has a monotonous old man voice and nothing interesting to say.

Wow. That's kind of amazingly ignorant.

I've always been a big fan of those kinds of stories, so I guess that's why it grabbed my attention.

So is the notion that being a prisoner of war somehow makes you better suited to be president. If anything, it appears that his entire life has been shaped by that event and it gives me pause when I consider how he might react in a wartime situation.

Absolutely not. At all. However, it is not a "back in my day" story.

I don't think there's much critical information delivered during convention speeches.

That said, McCain sure is an incredibly boring speaker.

KaelGotRice 2008-09-05 04:35:11 PM
Say what you will, but it seems like most Democrats I know still watched the RNC to see what was up, while most Republicans I know just jeered at the idea of listening to "uppity Obama".

I actually heard that said :/

I think this election, if the youth shows up, will be a landslide for Obama as all polling tends to be done on telephone landlines (all youth have cell phones) and idiots who actually allowed themselves to be polled.

You see, you don't have to agree with him on any issues. All you need to know is you need to vote for him because he was in a war.

Also, he apparently liked it so much he wants to keep having wars! You see, he really learned from his experience out there and learned that war is a GOOD thing.

CaptMacMillian 2008-09-05 04:35:32 PM
How many times did McCain say "my friends"?

I swear it had to be at least once a minute.

/heard it later on XM radio
//almost fell asleep at the wheel
///my friends

After Obama's post-Palin $ haul, maybe that's not such a good thing for McCain.

The Dems should hold their convention last. The plebians usually remember the last thing they saw.

jgbrowning 2008-09-05 04:36:06 PM
I didn't watch the speech. What did he say about inflation, unemployment, and the ongoing financial crisis? Does he support an interventionist governmental role or oppose such?

Must be hard to talk with your mouth so full.

DrillSergeantPoopyPants 2008-09-05 04:37:00 PM
It gives you pause to think someone - one who knows how badly war sucks, and who thinks if you fight a war you should win it - would do in a wartime situation?

War: above Obama's paygrade.

Fair enough. I've read some in-depth articles about his experience as a POW, but I ceased caring that he was ever a POW when he endorsed torture. So... I'm sure it was interesting for you, but I just can't give a shiat what hard times he's had in his life anymore. Anyone who endorses torture is trash in my mind.

Darconix: Yeah, our guy outperforms the anointed one you libs have chosen and your spin is "they were all really asleep?" I'm rooting for all my worth that McCain wins. Not just because I think he's the right choice for the country, but I really want to see the Fark spin on how Diebold stole the election or some such horseshiat. If that happens, I'll be here amused to no end.

You mistake getting a couple more viewers with "outpreforming".

No one in their right mind thinks McCain, or anyone from the Republican party for that matter, came even close to the speech Obama gave.

/You won't hear me complaining about him winning
//I'll probably already be drafted to go fight Iran or something

God, you people are such sheeple. Baaaaahhhhhh!

It's so funny to troll Republicans if you live on the coast, use a Mac, and were 25 before you moved out of your parents' basement, but believe it or not, there is a LARGE part of the country who are eating up everything these 2 come out with. While your brand of liberalism may seem 'obvious' and their brand of conservatism merely quaint, believe it or not, there are MORE OF THEM THAN THERE ARE OF YOU.

so suck it

/voting 3rd party
//give them a chance on the national scene at least

Texas Gabe 2008-09-05 04:38:54 PM
John McCain's got a nasty case of onion-on-the-belt.
