(The New York Times) Obvious George McGovern, 2007 - says he should have kept Tom Eagleton on the '72 ticket. Which makes two defenseless dead guys thrown under the bus by Team Obama/Biden this week. If this keeps up a key Chicago voting bloc will be gone   (nytimes.com) divider line 90

The article is out of date, and the headline is bullshiat.

The article was from March of 2007.

McGovern said in April of 2006, that he should've kept Eagleton. This was before Robert Novak announced in July '07 that Eagleton was also behind the "Abortion, Amnesty, and Acid" rumors that dogged McGovern as well.

Eagleton sank the McGovern campaign twice over. I doubt McGovern wishes he kept him anymore.

I guess the mods are trying to balance the "Palin/McCain" train wreck by green lighting any anti-Obama headline possible.

Including one from an 18-month-old story and a headline conclusion so completely unrelated to the story that my eyeballs filed an "unfair working conditions" grievance with my brain for having looked upon it?

Maybe.

So? That's when Eagleton died. It's usually bad form to embargo an obituary.

Daaaamn. I have seen some moral contortions in my time, but wow.

So long as it protects the Chosen One's acolytes it's suddenly fine to

a) take whatever gibberish Bob Novak spews out at face value, and
b) piss all over a man suffering from mental illness

Both when the subject isn't around to defend himself any more.

Classy.

Eagleton was a deeply decent man who got a raw deal when McGovern caved, stepped away from public office when he could've had a gig for life, and McGovern is an honorable man for acknowledging his mistake.

Robert Novak was the one who first reported the "Acid Abortion Amnesty" comment and sourced it from a Democratic Senator.

In July of 2007 on Meet the Press, he said the source of the quote was Tom Eagleton. Out of deference to Eagleton, he waited until after his death to reveal the source.

These are facts. What do you have besides inane bullshiat remarks to dispute them? I'll be waiting.

Return to my earlier reference about taking Novak at face value. With his track record of lying about everything from the Plame case to hitting that old guy with his car, all of a sudden he's Moses coming down with the tablets?

I wouldn't believe Novak if he said the Earth was the third planet out from the sun.

It's not a fair comparison. John McCain doesn't have the arm strength to throw anybody, let alone under a bus.

Throwing old, dead guys under the bus is bad for publicity. That's why Obama has been cautious about doing it to McCain.

I remember we used to laugh at Quayle. I really truly believe he had some Rovian (if not the man Karl Rove himself) PR team coach him on what stupid thing he should be saying to the camera. It never failed.

Agnew only had the distinction of being removed from office. From within. Everyone knew Nixon was the real crook.

Well, McCain chose this VP named Sarah Palin. She's a total studette, stole the spotlight from BHO, re-engergized the base, and the Dems are shiatting themselves. So they passed around a memo to "mention Eagleton alot" in hopes of forcing her off the ticket. Yes, they're really that scared of her!

Now you're up to speed.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

There needs to be a moratorium on anti-Palin/anti-Obama articles. All they do is stir up shiat. You have your die-hard Repubs on one side, and your die-hard Dems on the other with the mushy middle stuck in the well......middle. Those people are more sick of this crap than anyone else.

If you can't find a good article to greenlight about either of them......DON'T GREENLIGHT IT. I would love for just once during this election cycle, to be able to read and comment in threads in the Politics tab without dealing with everyone else's petty arguments.

Except the whole "being scared" bit isn't true. Your "historic" veep candidate seems to have either a scandal or a lie rebuked a day.

I'll be almost impressed if she can get through one speech without lying about herself.
