...before he was a candidate.

Either way, it's her show. I've never seen ol' Santorum on Ellen before.

That could actually be a really disgusting statement if I was talking about the bigoted former senator.

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 01:27:42 PM
well, of course.

I think that was before he was a candidate.

Of course you wouldn't know the difference between Obama being on when he wasn't a candidate and Palin being on when she is.

At no point since we've known about him has Obama not been running for office.

It's her show and her production company, and she can have on who she wants. Don't like it? Don't support her advertisers.

He hasn't been on since he was the Presidential Candidate.

maybe John can pull some strings with Jay Leno and get her on The Tonight Show instead.

I think the GOP should whine and biatch and moan about it until they get their way.

Cagey B [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 01:37:19 PM
Obama hauled the Stone of Triumph all the way up a whole goddamned mountain, and you conservatives reference that like it's a bad thing?

Geez. No wonder you're losing seats in Congress.

Not at all. Just trying to point out that it would be naive to call this a "freedom of speech" or "equal time" violation.

A Republican friend of mine was very angry when Oprah had Obama on. I told her "Hey, don't watch the show" and she looked at me like I said "Walk into a running helicopter blade" and replied "But it's Oprah."

The fact that Obama had appeared, candidate or not, doesn't bug me so much as Oprah herself. She's not a person, she's an operation. She's appeared for Obama and has endorsed him. Maybe not her show, but so what? Where does Oprah end and the show begin?

So yes, I think it's politically hypocritical of her. She can't claim political neutrality at this point.

Don't Tase Me Bro 2008-09-05 01:47:52 PM
Oprah refuses to promote lipstick fascism on her show. Good for her.

More importantly, who cares?

But she will promote Marxist Communism.

Is that like arresting an ABC reporter at a Dem Lobbyist fest?

Oprah won't put my candidate on her show! WAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Stoj [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 01:52:50 PM
Oprah says. "There are a lot of people who would want you to run for the presidency of the United States."

So would Senator Obama consider running for president in 2008?

"You know, there's a wonderful saying that...the most important office in a democracy is the office of citizen," he says. "We have an election coming up in '06 that is going to determine who's in power in Congress...and that's what I'm spending all my energy [on] ... to make sure that people are paying attention to this election."

Oprah has one more question for Senator Obama. "If you ever would decide to run within the next five years...would you announce on this show?" she asks.

"I don't think I could say no to you," Senator Obama says. "Oprah, you're my girl."

She was for promoting Obama before she was against it.

Oh, and who cares - it's Oprah.

Petit_Merdeux [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 01:53:32 PM

No, it's like banning books because, morally, you don't agree with them.

Above all the stupidity surrounding your cries for independence despite bashing Obama and supporting McCain/Palin, you have been known to dislike increased governmental control.

The one thing you can be counted on for is a dislike of an authoritarian government that tries to control the populace.

I'm glad you have abandoned that too. Now you're just like every other GOP hack.

albo [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 01:56:13 PM
if she wanted to help obama, she should have palin on.

this way, she's going to annoy her legion of viewers, which i'm sure is bipartisan and probably heavy on homemakers who may identify with palin.

I think subby has Oprah confused with a journalist.

Also, pretty sure if she agreed to have her on, the campaign would cancel it because nobody is allowed to ask her questions.

Sorry, your socialist Utopian dream world looks far more authoritarian to me. And I guess you could say I've made up my mind. You can thank the lefts vitriol and thirst for persecution of anyone who disagrees with your ideology for that.

You guys are dangerous to anyone who isn't a Comrade Democrat. You're own attacks on me, is a pretty obvious indication of that.

Yes, but I think it's disingenous to say it's because you don't want to politicize the show. It's completely her right, but she can't claim the high ground.

Oprah openly endorses Obama. I don't think she does claim neutrality.

Matter of fact, she acknowledges this, and that is why no candidates have appeared or will appear on her show this election season.

No. But it is interesting that you are trying to deflect the point with an irrelevant and false comparison.

And with that, you've stopped even being amusing. Now you're a proud member of the GOP, and I'm debating putting you on my ignore list, like everyone else who's comments are only annoying.

As for TFA, why didn't Oprah just say that she refuses to let someone on the show who represents a step back for women because she wants to take away their personal freedoms? Her response is tepid at best.

It's ok. I know he's not going to stand up to the assertion, because we both know that the things Democrats do are far worse than the things Republicans do. It's just standard Gary.

But, I am glad to see the comrade marxist comments come out to play.

We'll be back to your regularly scheduled commie left booga booga booga after this commercial break.

I think Oprah should have her on the show, introduce her, say, "Okay! You take over. I'll be back in ten minutes. Have a chat with the audience." and then walk off.

I cared so much I spent 10 seconds on google.

She can have whoever she wants on her show. I just think that she has hurt her show this political season by the decisions she has made. I can't think of another show that wouldn't kill to have the presidential/VP nominees on.

But I am sure she is crying her eyelashes off right now & wiping away the tears with $1,000 bills.
