I bet these women will talk to reporters, out of strength. Not avoid them, out of fear.

kronicfeld [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 08:16:20 AM
The McCain campaign, keenly aware of the potential of their nontraditional pick, immediately used any criticism of Palin as a sign of sexism.

But the race card is off-limits. Got it.

BladBoy [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 08:16:31 AM
That's right because when you are running for president, you should do nothing to react to your opponent, just keep doing the same thing.

Worked well for President Kerry.

Enlisting the women makes sense to me. There can't be any cries of sexism if a woman is bashing a woman.

I love the fact that the republicans are so scared by all this. Bring a woman on the ticket and hide her from the press, cry sexism when men rag on her, then freak out when the women come out to rag on her. Come on you neocons (and a few of the Fark independants), you can move to Canada after the election in November!

wingman- 2008-09-05 08:29:39 AM
Sorry submitter. There's nothing sudden about Sen. Clinton's or Gov. Sebelius' support for Barack Obama. One of them he vetted as a VP pick and the other he had to beat to become the candidate. Hell, I bet Hillary volunteered to eviscerate Palin -- after the laughter subsided of course -- when Palin was announced. Was your "strength, not weakness" comment a slight to women who don't support Palin? Might wanna check yourself at the door.

Democratic women aren't going to get behind your crazy "BAN ALL ABORTIONS AND FIGHT THE IRAQ HOLY WAR" VP. Polling, donations, and Palin's lack of credible chops shows this.

1/10 for you on a relatively poor attempt.

Kome [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 08:31:26 AM
All politicians are at least a little scared potential voters won't vote for them. It's how they respond that shows whether or not their fear is a source of strength or weakness. Obama, whether you like him or not, whether you support him or not, has usually confronted the issues that threaten his campaign. Whether or not those efforts succeed or not is another matter, but he tries.

Nestea Plunge: But in the past has had no problem scolding Hillary for using the same excuse only a few months ago.

Sarah Palin on Hillary Clinton's claim of sexism: "When I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism, or maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think, 'Man, that doesn't do us any good, women in politics, or women in general, trying to progress this country,' "

That should be considered a new kind of gaffe. Jon Stewart highlighted it the other night on his show perfectly. These people are either blatantly lying expecting not to be caught or have a severe short term memory issue.

I think even Stewart said it better himself.

"Don't they know we record all this stuff?"

That was a great segment. Pretty much the entire GOP went from "What? Sexism? Pffftt! There's no sexism" to "OMFG!!! Teh SEXISM!!! IT'S EVERYWHERE!1!" in a couple of months.

I know it is a smart strategy to bring in women to campaign against another woman.

I really wish Biden would be the one to go after his opponent. I'd hate to see the situation develop that only women are the ones that end up destroying her up until the VP debate. I want to see Biden start going after her now.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 09:04:00 AM
They have no choice - if they send a man, they will be accused of sexism.

I actually think its perfectly fine to use Biden to just attack McCain. Pretend Palin doesn't exist. Treat her like the tokenistic placeholder she is.

if women vote for palin just because she's a woman, then they deserve to have their reproductive rights taken away. that is all.

You have to send out the coont brigade to take care of the vagina fraction.

FredaDeStilleto [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 09:17:53 AM
I can understand the logic of using women - to a degree. But when you have a voter who is casting their ballot for a vagina, the sex of the attack dog makes zero difference.

I disagree. For example, the use of Joe Lieberman has definitely made it easier for McCain to appeal to Jews.

Ahhh, the fun has just begun.

I don't think it is ever bad, in politics, to be afraid of stupidity. I don't mean the stupidity of voting for the republican ticket, which is at least debatable, but the stupidity of voting for a woman because she is a woman regardless of her policies.

Yes, if only I didn't have to hear her or about her. Her voice as well as her ideas can cause nausea in very small doses.

Too bad there aren't any black people in the Republican party or they could attack Obama....because it would be racist if a white male attacked Obama. Do you think if Obama loses that the race card will be thrown out and everyone who didn't vote for him will be racist? Just curious.

I am going to be voting for the lesser of two evils....wish I could vote for a good President, but what do you do....

This picture is the stupidest thing ever. It reminds me of a protest singer doing his song in a coffee shop about what he thinks about the government, and then congratulating himself speaking truth to power.

My point? You cannot kick somebody's ass if you don't let him fight back.

Obama using sound strategy to deflect and marginalize a token female candidate of the GOP... SHOCKING!

And really McCain should have considered why intelligent women voters would want to vote for a woman that is against women's rights... oh wait maybe its because McCain doesn't consider women voters to be intelligent.

No, he's right. Reagan killed Carter with that line, then went to the well too often against Mondale four years later. For a moment, it looked like the 1984 race was going to be a real contest.

These threads are always rife with two whopping misconceptions.

1. That Palin was chosen to "go after" Hillaryites. She wasn't. She was chosen to fire up the right wing.

2. That a president or vice president can somehow "take away" a woman's reproductive rights. They can't. Roe v. Wade is established precedent, and even Roberts and Alito won't overturn it. The only way Roe v. Wade will be overturned is by Constitutional Amendment, and that's extremely improbable. "Reproductive rights" is the Terror Alert System of the Democratic Party. It is nothing but fear mongering. Your right to abort fetuses is secure, and Sarah Palin couldn't change it if she wanted to.

Incontinent_dog_and_monkey_rodeo 2008-09-05 09:44:45 AM
Obama and Biden will both do the smart thing and ignore Palin as much as possible. They'll let surrogates do the attacking. Especially the legion of women more qualified to be president than Palin. I think the GOP just has no clue how to win this election.

She's John McCain's Boudicaous pick for VP, sort of a cross between a domesticated Xena and a Freeper.

Incontinent_dog_and_monkey_rodeo 2008-09-05 09:47:03 AM
And I agree with Canyoneer about abortion, but only because it's one of the GOP's last remaining issues. They had total control for 6 years and did zero about banning abortions. Why? Because that would move the issue from their side and over to the dems.

How is she against womens rights? Oh, kind of like, if you don't want to get pregnant use condoms, b.p. or maybe close your legs instead of killing the baby? I must be pretty damn intelligent for not getting knocked up my whole 26 years I've been living.
