They forgot prog rock = soulless nerd.

I like both rap and indie, so I have high self-esteem and am outgoing while also having low self-esteem.

I like music none of you ever heard of. And if you have heard of it, I was a huge fan of theirs before you heard of them. But, I'm not anymore. Because you've heard of them and they are obviously played out.

I also have a low self esteem of you. Because you suck and your bands suck too.

I listen to oldskool UK hardcore breakbeat from the early 90s (and spend a ridiculous amount on shipping records from the UK). Those were the days- marathon dance weekends in San Francisco: Carefree, The Gathering, Rave at the Beach and in the Park, Sharon, Wicked, Full Moon Massive, etc ,etc, etc! =)

Not many of us left I'd wager, particularly in the States...

My gf used to be like that, but in the Phili/DC/Bal area. Every time she describes the zillion different types of dance music, I get a nosebleed.

I like Barbara Streisand and show tunes.

So what would MSBR say about my personality?

How about my normal playlists, that involve that, PTV, Ministry, Slayer... probably Ashane and the previously mentioned J-POP mixed in as well.

I'm guessing something along the lines of either "reclusive sociopath" or "about to be declared a terrorist by the US government".

/what can I say, it's really well done music

Yeah, it's more like "What Magic:The Gathering Color Are you?"

//incredibly unimpressed by this study

Illidan 2008-09-05 07:24:58 AM
Man, why is it that the first thing I hear about music anymore is the culture? I guess it's always been that way, but once in awhile it'd be cool if it was just the tune, the instruments.

I really, really like to listen to guitars riff and solo. Cool drumbeats are neat too. Whether it's extreme metal, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult, or the Charlie Daniels Band (saw them on the weekend), there's a certain kind of nifty playing that just grabs me. What's that say about me other then hey, that guy likes cool guitars?

That means you run right out to meet people, and then don't say anything when you get there.

L. Heimdall 2008-09-05 07:39:29 AM
Girly man man man man.... Creative and outgoing?

Anyway, I am actually mildly curious as to how the study approached this. Did this only address people who liked one type of music only? In that case, they should have some interesting data about the personality trend subset of people who like both (and only) Rap and Bollywood, since each group of choices would be a distinct group unto itself. Ie, the group who say the like Rap would have these traits, the group that say they like Bollywood would have these traits, but the group that said both Rap and Bollywood would have an entirely different trait trend, possibly not even related to either of the other two groups.

Though my guess is they just asked people which they liked best, one choice only, in which case if you want to measure yourself against the trend, you only get to pick one as well.

As for classical music; "high self-esteem"...well, its surely no suprise we're some pompous, arrogant bastards, but the whole "at ease" thing doesn't sound like the classical music fans I know.

L. Heimdall 2008-09-05 07:41:59 AM
Though I guess Girly Man would be a Bollywood/"Chart Pop" blend, not just straight Bollywood, so another subset again.

EchoMike [TotalFark] 2008-09-05 07:57:48 AM
You know how I know you're gay? You like Coldplay.

ignite ice 2008-09-05 08:03:27 AM
They don't even have trance on there. And no, trance is not the same thing as dance/rave music. (Although, I guess sometimes trance music is played at such events.) What a stupid list.

Aldo the Wonder Dog 2008-09-05 08:05:46 AM
I liked this (possibly NSFW), which covers about 10 of those genres in a mere 6:12.

Which means I probably have this.

"Low self-esteem, not hard-working, not outgoing"

FAIL

stoicnimwit 2008-09-05 08:19:19 AM
It really irks me that they use the word "introvert" once and then replace it with "not outgoing" for the rest of the quiz. They have a perfectly good word there and they wasted it.

/Why? :(
//Classical, opera, dance and indie for me... :)

Apparently, you're tearing the roof off, because it's on fire and not calling the fire department because you are going to let that motherfarker burn.

so... outgoing, violent, firebug would seem to be the answer.

NimbleWalrus 2008-09-05 08:39:34 AM
Those generalizations are vague enough to apply to me.
