Wait.

Did Cliff Richard just out himself and support same-sex unions?

The same Cliff Richard who decried Elvis Presley as too sallacious
back in the day?

Wow. Maybe these are the end times!

Still, he was cool enough to record this back in the 80's. (new window)

He came to my house in the early 80s.

I am not joking.

/didn't seem to be too weird at the time, but somewhat ageless, like Michael Jackson only blacker.

FTFA: "It seems to me that commitment is the issue, and if anyone comes to me and says: `This is my partner, we are committed to each other' then I don't care what their sexuality is."

Holy crap. Cliff Richard? Cliff RICHARD? My respect for him just went up about 1000-fold. My entire world-view is in shambles right now. Seriously.

ObTrivia: Keith Richards briefly went by the name Keith Richard, on the advice of a manager who thought he could feed off the popularity of Cliff. This is really true.

I though he came out of the shadows some time ago.

For some reason, I read that as Little Richard.

Somebody already beat me to Rick's "Cliff" poem (long live the People's Poet) so instead I'll offer this random bit of trivia.

In Pink Floyd The Wall, Bob Hoskins has a cameo as Pink's manager. He only has one scene where he busts into the penthouse with the police to find Pink catatonic and the entire penthouse trashed with all the debris arranged meticulously in OCD fashsion all around the room. On the set while filming the scene, Bob Hoskins ad libbed "I never had this trouble with Cliff Richard". Everybody on the set just absolutely lost it. Alan Parker gave some consideration leaving it in, but later concluded that would undermine what was supposed to have been a very somber scene.

"Good morning Special Patrol Group!"

--"I think 'Special Patrol Group' is a STUPID name for a hamster"

"Ok--I'll change it then,
good morning CLIFF RICHARD!"

--"B A S T A R D !!!"

I thought this was due to a rift between him and his father. (???)
