I likes me some early Fleetwood Mac.

I have "Bare Trees" on vinyl, which, i'm pretty sure, has Kirwan on it.
It's his pretty/cool guitar playing that raises the album from 'fair' to 'good'.

When I saw the video was a tribute, I thought he was dead. Apparently he's doing better and has even picked up the guitar again.

wow, i hadn't heard he's playing again. i wonder if he'd ever be healthy enough to play in public, or want to for that matter.

The Hold Steady finds your lack of faith disturbing, Subby. (new window)

When I was a kid I didn't understand the Biblical quote that "the race is not always to the swift."

In later years, hearing things like Danny Kirwan living on the streets, I understood what that meant.

I spent a fair number of evenings listening to Peter Green/Danny Kirwan era Fleetwood Mac while sitting around surfers' campfires in places like Cape Hatteras and Sebastian Inlet. In the late 60s and early 70s on the East Coast, it seems like surfers were the only people hip to the Mac. You certainly didn't hear them on the radio.

Anyway, if subby is ever in the Research Triangle area, the beer's on me.

I knew old Mac wouldn't generate a lot of discussion on Fark (seems like people only know the Nicks years, which is sad), but I submitted it anyway knowing someone would appreciate it. Cool story.

Future Times and Bare Trees are just ... wow. Doesn't surprise me that back then the surfers were into it.

Booooo.

Yeah man. I just sent this link and the link to "Bare Trees" to my main man. We're planning on trying to grab some Hanna surf in the Rodanthe area this weekend and I think I'll load some Mac on my iPod for general entertainment.

Future Games, Bare Trees, Penguin, and Mystery to Me are the albums that I associate with Fleetwood Mac. I'll even admit that my favorite was Heroes Are Hard To Find. I got a kick out of "Hypnotized" and "Bermuda Triangle" because they both mention North Carolina.

After "Heroes" the Buckingham-Nicks years kicked off. On the one hand, I don't hate those albums and in fact there's a lot to like on them. I really like Lindsay Buckingham as a songwriter.

On the other hand, it's hard to think that Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch, etc, are relegated to virtual obscurity while some hippie chick with a gypsy fetish gets the glory. That's hard cheese no matter how you cut it.

Well said. Couldn't agree more. Enjoy the surf.

crap. you people are old. slipknot, metallica, flyleaf, some of the new manson, and thats just the pop-rock genre. of course your definitions of rock and roll include dentures and rocking chairs. get over it, old music sucked with some few notable exceptions.

I'm in my 20s and I submitted this. Only 1 band you mentioned is actually good, the rest of it is manufactured garbage. It has nothing to do with age, retard. Music is timeless and talent is never outdated. People still listen to jazz, blues, R&B, CBG, etc., and they should. You'd do well to listen to some of the bands that influenced what you like. I'd suggest Sabbath and Motorhead to get you started.

Don't be such a prick.

I agree that there are some good bands out there now, but that MTV manufactured crap you just mentioned? FAIL. shiat like that is the REASON so many people assume all recent bands suck.

Slipknot? Seriously? They're the very definition of gimmicky shiat.

No, you're young. You'll grow out of it eventually. Hopefully.
