Hell yeah. Never got to see these guys in the original incarnation. I was a little late to the party. My then-girlfriend/now-wife got me into them. Now I live right up the street from where they're playing the reunion show. How convenient.

We were about 2 or 3 people away from making it into the shot for the cover of Ben Folds Live. On the accompanying DVD you can see our heads pop up from behind his piano.

I thought about reuniting, but then I got high
I was gonna bring the whole band back, but then I got high
Now I'm not selling any records, and I know why
Because I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

/don't ask me why I thought of that

I miss local NC/SC bands that are worth a shiat. Thank YHWH that Three Doors Down's second album wasn't utter garbage.

That's pretty sweet.

Especially playing Messner in it's entirety. That's some of their best work in my opinion. A little more artsy-fartsy, but still excellent.

Wish I could go, but I think I'll put the money I would put into going to see them in NC into getting the deluxe version of his new album.

I saw these guys in about 1998 and though I wasn't familiar with their tunes at the time, I was totally blown away. They thoroughly kicked each and every ass in the house. Still one of the overall most excellent musical performances I've ever seen, and I've seen zillions.

chi_guy 2008-09-03 01:58:14 PM
I would kill to see them in concert.

doubleofive 2008-09-03 02:12:39 PM
9 hour drive... Not worth it. If it was "Whatever and Ever Amen", maybe.

Teasing, I too would kill to see Ben Folds Five back together.

kronicfeld [TotalFark] 2008-09-03 02:15:15 PM
Seeing Ben Folds on Sept 24, presumably not with the original guys. Meh. His current drummer and guitarist are just fine.

I had heard that the band broke up because of artistic differences. This all happened in May of 2000.

Then in June they reformed without him. And they got a different name.

I listened to the original version of Army and thought it was awesome, until I heard the live version with just Ben and the audience singing the horn section.

My head promptly exploded from the awesomeness.

I saw them the month before they broke up, and would love to see them again. If only they'd announced this earlier., I'd've been able to make it. "Reinhold Messner" is an amazing, amazing record.

He's pretty good with his new band, too, but Jessee and Sledge are REALLY good.

UNCLE WALTER LIVES!!!

davezog 2008-09-03 03:11:05 PM
The man is a genius. Seen him with the Five back in the day and 'solo' a few years ago. One of the better live shows around these days.

Such Great Heights cover (new window)

Man, I hope it's recorded/filmed and they do

KATE!

Wow, that's infinitely better than the Postal Service version. Ben Folds sings with actual passion unlike Ben Gibbard who atonally moans his way through his songs.

I'm excited. And I'm going to forget to watch it.

Reinhold was the first cd I bought of theirs. Seen Ben solo twice (once at my school - win).

You have made me smile again
in fact I might be sore from it;
It's been a while.

I have seen BFF and they were great. However, the drummer could kinda lay off that "crash cymbal on every beat" thing he does in every song. Other than that, I love them.

Check out the Avett Brothers. NC band, got there first big exposure playing the Cave Rick Rubin just signed them to American.

/Seen Be Folds twice. Great shows but way too short.
//the shows too
///might have to take a drive.....

BRENDAN-FACE 2008-09-04 03:52:28 PM
I was lucky enough to see them a few times when they were together. In fact, they were part of one of the best line-ups I've ever seen:

Jones Bech Ampitheatre, NY (circa 1998):
Opening Act: Elliott Smith with Quasi
Middle Act: Ben Fold Five
Headliner: Beck (during his Odelay Tour)

I wish this reunion show were a complete tour.

I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT FARKING WAIT.

/Messner is one of my favorite albums of all time, and my favorite BFF album. Love it. I'll probably tear like a homo when it is over. :(

//Saw him during his live tour, and three other times. Talked to him once, asked him a question, and his response was "I GOTS TA BUST MOTHAfarkAS' ASSES!!"

///Cannot wait, absolutely, I.

fark this, I'm moving to NC!
