They all ended more or less dicks or crazy (except for Eric Avery) but they were the first of their kind. Nirvana got credit for acting like these guys did, nearly a decade later.

Still love Perry. He lives the life I dream of.

Oh, and is that Flea?

and morons say 80s music sucked. there was just as much quality if not more in the 80s as the 70s.

for the video, that was actually kinda cool but anyone who plays guitar with a cigarette is a farking asshole.

I would agree except this was before going on live... Doing it during a private band rehersal is not that way. Doing it on stage would be asshole.

The 70's it was about being fun. In the 80's it crystallized. By the time the 90's came around. It matured and gave good estsablished sounds. Past that, It just said get of my lawn. Via the RIAA.

/50's was an 'mazing time for music
//60's it was a neat time for sounds and experimenting
/slashies for Devo

They were a breath of fresh air in the late 80's I saw them a couple of times back then while I was tripping on acid, it was pretty neato. I still love those first 3 albums

I'm guessing your name is taken from the Mahavishnu Orchestra, so in that vein: how the fark can you say 80's music was anywhere close to 70's quality?

Jazz, in particular, was like an abused child in the 80's... it was so tentative and confused I'd love to forget most of it (Miles... playing Time after Time, wtf?)

Fact checking is good before posting.

Start with wikipedia or google and also allmusic.com is good.

"Decade" is way off.

Asking if that was Flea doesn't help your case much either.

This song was circa 1985. Nirvana wasn't big until 1991-92. Sure I exaggerated with "decade" but it's just rounding up.

I don't care about what decade it was from. It was still sweet.

The song is from the fall of 87, or about a year before Nirvana recorded "Bleach". And neither band was big until 91-92. They're both pretty much the same story: above average band with some cool tracks that gets saddled with the ridiculous "voice of generation x" label. They're like the Doors or Bee Gees for the late eighties.

Bullshiat. I caught them live in Florida in 1988, and there was a huge buzz about them even then.

I saw both of these bands during the winter of 88-89, and yeah, both had a big "buzz". And they both built on the buzz for a few years and started getting big around 1991.

Dude, I knew about them because I had a subscription to Rolling Stone, and Jane's was all over that magazine in 1987-88. They raved endlessly about them.

If frickin' Rolling Stone is gushing about you, you're big. It's not the home of the obscure.

skeeterjennings 2008-09-03 06:25:15 PM
Rolling Stone was also raving then about Green River, Voivod and Fugazi(who made Jane's and Nirvana both look like New Kid's, btw.) So yeah, RS gushing about you doesn't make you big. The first lolapalooza and Nevermind made those groups big.

Confabulat [TotalFark] 2008-09-03 06:40:16 PM
Fugazi did rock, though.

CavemanCometh 2008-09-03 10:04:49 PM
I saw these guys in '89 or '90 in Vancouver. They headlined with Primus and the Pixies opening. Awesome gig.

dadio86 2008-09-03 10:06:12 PM
fugazi was only good through repeater. ian mckaye's self righteous ego got bigger than the band.
get discord's "State of the Union"

Anyone who has problems with good synth sounds is a farking meathead. I'm not talking DX7 bell shiat here, I'm talking good sounds.

i saw them in the 80's at the Metro in Chicago. Tickets were $5.

/trumps the cool

HAHAHAHA!!!

God that sound gives me nightmares.
I believe that DX7 preset was called "Bell Rhodes" which is funny because it had none of the balls or backbone of a real Fender/Rhodes sound. Every dreadful 80s R&B,Soul and pop ballad had that awful digital chorus bell-tone.

I remember in the mid and late 80s I was always going into music stores and asking about used ARPs, Moogs and Prophet 5s etc at which point some asshole store employee would basically laugh at me and tell me "the Yamaha DX7 is ALL you need"

I was listening to Janes in our rehearsal hall on acid when Lollapaloza hadnt even been thought of. 87 or 88 I think.

/mega FAIL
