(Starpulse) Interesting Tougher than leather, hard times or not, you be illin' if you think Reverend Run will reunite Run-DMC back from hell. It's like that, so walk this way, king of rock   (starpulse.com) divider line 11

Sucker MCs should call him "Sire"

I met Rev. Run on a plane ride back from Atlanta a couple years
ago. He was travelling with two young kids and a young woman
(don't know if she was his wife and they were his kids, or if she
was a daughter and the kids were grand children).

Anyway: I didn't fawn over him, since he looked quite tired (it
was Thanksgiving weekend), but when I happened to be standing
next to him at baggage claim I turned and said "Love your stuff,
and your version of WALK THIS WAY? Definitive."

He smiled and thanked me. He seemed truly flattered.

Despite the fact that you lied to him.

I always despised that version. Never had the crunch of the original, and Tyler's singing of the chorus is deplorable, shouting out the title instead of singing it (with cool back up vox)

He's going to bring Jam Master J back from the dead?

Different strokes, I guess.

To me, the original was always too shrill and rather soulless.
Run DMC punched up the beat and injected a life into it that
Aerosmith couldn't achieve even if they had hooked the master
tape up to Dr. Frankenstein's machinery.

Rock Box was way better than Walk This Way.

I came here to say that

Rickenbacker: Rock Box was way better than Walk This Way.

King of Rock is better than WTW

I just read Raising Hell. Rev. Run isn't portrayed all that well. According to the book, he was quitting Run DMC when Jam Master Jay was killed and that gave him an out without being the bad guy.

Furthermore, it doesn't help DMC at all when Run has Run's House, since he's probably not getting any licensing off the deal. DMC has spasmodic dysphonia, like Scott Adams, and has trouble rapping these days, which limits his ability to make a living.
Fact is, Run DMC never made a lot of money during their career and Run mad his fortune off the Phat Farm line. When Jam Master Jay died, the Simmons brothers were taking a collection to pay off his mortgage and establish a fund for his children's education.

Having said all that, I'd love to see the Run DMC reunion with a live band to replace Jam Master Jay. that would be tight.

Run DMC covers from bar bands are always fun. Well, usually.

Subby, sorry but you be illin'

That headline could have been so much better
The color in yo' face couldnt be redder
Simple rhythm and rhyme would have got more votes
Than randomly droppin those out of place quotes
