Its too bad they didn't let him release "Smile" back in 66-67, it really seemed to have shattered him. It might not have been as good as "Seargent Pepper" but it would have beaten The Beatles to the punch

Wasn't it another Beach Boy who ended up creeping around like an Aqualung around Gainesville, FL back in the late 80s-early-mid-90s before he died young...or was that a member of another band..

"Enthrall me with your acumen, Agent Starling...."

"You know what you look like to me, with your good bag and your cheap shoes? You look like a rube. A well scrubbed, hustling rube with a little taste. Good nutrition's given you some length of bone, but you're not more than one generation from poor white trash, are you, Agent Starling? And that accent you've tried so desperately to shed: pure West Virginia. What is your father, dear? Is he a coal miner? Does he stink of the lamb? You know how quickly the boys found you... all those tedious sticky fumblings in the back seats of cars... while you could only dream of getting out... getting anywhere... getting all the way to...FARK...."

//semi-thread hijack.......

Still wanna know about that crazy-farkin'-dude in Gainesville...he wuz locally semi-famous.....

I don't think was the LSD or the weed, but the "all that", that got him.

"I'm getting better at letting go of bad feelings," he says. "I force myself to feel a little better. I still get scared. John Lennon was killed, and it makes me feel like someone's going to kill me."

...don't think so big guy. It is more likely you'll trip on your slippers and die of a head injury in the home.

I thought it was less the LSD and ganja and more of the drugs that his quack doctor prescribed to him.

yeah, it would have been nice if smile had been released in '67 but it was finally released in 2004 by wilson and his new band. it's well worth buying.

Mike Love has been insufferable always, even in the early days of the Beach Boys. The Smile album is great and proof that you don't have to do drugs to be creative. Seriously the whole idea that you need chemicals to be creative is one of the worst myths ever foisted on the world.

Welp, I'm going to bed. See you all next month.

/Brian is awesome.

I have seen Brian Wilson twice with the Wonder Mints the last few years at the Hollywood Bowl. The first time was performing Beach Boys hits and then all of Pet Sounds in order from the album. Then more Beach Boys hits with the full orchestra, including Brian playing bass guitar on Help Me Rhonda.

The second time was all of Smile in order from the album and, again, greatest hits with a full LA Philharmonic orchestra.

This year, it's Brian Wilson with tracks from the new album, That Lucky Old Sun, greatest hits from the Beach Boys, and freakin fireworks with the full orchestra.

Honestly, if you are a Beach Boys fan at all and you can make any of these upcoming shows, you owe it to yourself to do so. These performances are amazing and literally life altering.

Amazing is an understatement. I saw the Smile tour and the harmonies are so good it's scary.

Brian Wilson IS the Beach Boys. Unbelievable.

Except that he wrote it in 1966 when he was on drugs.

No, Dennis Wilson was the Beach Boys. I love Brian, but Dennis was the best.
