TFA:

"Izzy later admitted that they pimped out some of their groupies, and ripped them off as well. "If one of the guys was f - - - ing a girl in our sleeping loft," he said, "we'd ransack the girl's purse while he was doing her."

GnR are not worthy of the earthworm crap in the ground near Bonham and Sid's graves, much less the insinuation that they are somehow on a musical level with them.

yeah, thats probably not a bad description of the sound on "Appetite for Destruction"

"Fans said to me, 'Please don't let "Chinese Democracy" ever come out,' " says Davis. " 'We've heard the stuff, and it's not that great. Can't this great band die with dignity?' "

Word.

I didnt know adler liked the cock.

No wonder Axl hated the band after he went sober.

Sorry, Sid may have played the rebel well. And lived it too, even.
But he played music and sang worth sh*t.

I remember seeing them open for Aerosmith in Mountain View, CA. That was an awesome show.

Slash's book is also a great read, pick it up if you get a chance.

the Davis quote in the headline is actually not that bad a description.

The other members of the Sex Pistols routinely rip on Sid's lack of ability, and acknowledge he was the image that sold records.

This has always been my problem with punk music: All image & only the punk rockers with talent admit it.
The Kinks - invented punk
The Who - hard rock, but trashed instruments & had more radio rock. Called the original punk band.

LOTSA Gn'R greenlights these days. What label is releasing this? Not that the two are possibly connected...

I forgot Sex Pistols were better than GNR because the cute, crappy bassist with a cool name in Pistols died.

When you show us Cream and Sabbath records that predate 'My Generation' and 'You really Got Me', they can have their words.

While you are both right to a degree:

My Generation: 11/5/65
You Really Got Me: 8/4/64
Sonics First Single "The Witch": 1964
Kingsmen "Louie Louie": 1963

...and it goes back forever...

Did you just mention Sid and "musical" in the same sentence?

Death by heroin would become familiar to Slash. Sometime later, he was partying with Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx. As their dealer shot a needle into Sixx's arm, Sixx "turned blue and fell out of his chair."

"Oh no," Slash murmured. "Not again." When the ambulance arrived, Sixx was clinically dead. If paramedics hadn't plunged two adrenaline needles into Sixx's heart to revive him, Slash might have been marked as the Grim Reaper of the Sunset Strip. Slash relived the experience later, when his heart stopped for eight minutes after a drug binge before being revived with defibrillators. The experience left him angry because it "really ate into my day off."

As morbid as this is, I couldn't help but crack up at the "Not again"...

...this sounds like either an awesome piece of fiction, or they've grabbed some new stories and this might be a fun read.

Every member of Led Zep would have totally made their counterpart in the pistols their personal biatch.

WORD.
I'm tired of reading the word "legendary" next to their name.
I think Slash is a legend, but the band had at best 1 "complete" great album. That's what qualifies as "legendary"?!

Um the next band asked me to read this... "Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Molly Hatchet could not be here tonight, but they all had sex and are proud to announce the birth of their two-headed baby, Tenacious D"

I have an ashtray that has more talent than Sid ever did. What is it with everyone giving all this praise to Sid? He was a farking junkie punk. He could barely play bass. He was famous for being a douche. That deserves praise?

//will give you Bonham...he was the king of the skins.

That was the first time in my life I've ever read the New York Post and afterward thought to myself, "That was a damn good article; informative and well-written, and I'm really glad I read it." But I really enjoyed

I look forward to tomorrow's Joel Sherman article where the Yankees should trade the sweet memory of Kevin Maas in a five team trade that nets them Chase Utley, Evan Longoria, Russell Martin, and David Ortiz.

The Dynamite Monkey 2008-09-02 08:08:06 PM
aszure: He could barely play bass

You insult the word "barely".

He could not play at all, and worse, did not even try.

Glen Matlock's departure and Sid addition are the main reasons people misunderstand The Pistols, and punk rock in general.

Sid and Malcolm did more to hurt punk rock than any council ban ever could.

I wonder how much unreleased stuff they have just waiting for Axl to die or something.
