How hard would it be to hire a couple of composers to crank out Conchords-type material?

I don't know, I LOVED the first season of the TV show, but when you'd hear their stuff out of context (listening to their record or seeing them live) it just isn't as funny. Or.. funny at all I guess.

The show was hilarious though.

To come up with stuff of this quality? Very hard

Okay I forgot about the "binary solo" in that song.

That is farking funny.

This makes me sad, but better that than letting the quality go down just to crank out more episodes.

Plus now they have more time to tour!

See, it's the other way around for me. I loved hearing them live, but was a little disappointed initially with the show.

I think another part of it has to do with HBO being frikkin Lame now. No Preacher eather kids! Its been confirmed. For ( get this) being too dark and controversial. Deadwood gone and all these new lame shows. The Vampire show..yes Vampires are how we treat gays. WE GET IT! HBO has lost its luster and has become another regular network if you ask me. New head of programing saw to that
The old HBO whould have been fine with waiting till they were ready for season 3 like they did with Larry David.
Oh well there is showtime now.

This really sucks, but I swear I'm not crying. It's just been raining on my face.

I'm not weeping cause they won't be such a rocking band, for your information there's an inflammation in my tear gland.

I'm not upset because they left us this way, my eyes are just a little sweaty today... Etc.

That farking sucks. That was by far the best show on TV last year. I'm so mad I could dance.

i'd like to biatch about HBO, but In Treatment and Generation Kill have been two of the better things on tv in recent years... they dropped the ball on Deadwood and that Jesus of Malibu things sucked but it seems like HBO always delivers something of quality.

secularsage 2008-09-01 03:23:34 PM
Seeing as a good portion of the first season was adapted from the BBC radio series, I'm not terribly surprised that they're having a hard time with the second season. I'm excited at the prospect of more FOTC, but only if it's good stuff (episodes 1-4, 9-12) and not episodes like the one about racism or the one about Bowie.

They're probably best off if they can follow the template Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant have been using with "The Office" and "Extras" and produce a second season and a special that ties up the loose ends. It gives the series a sense of finale without running it into the ground.

Frick! The Discount Musical Prankster 2008-09-01 03:37:43 PM
As much as I love FOTC, I pretty much expected that they'd only go 2 seasons. It's hard work to try to come up with all new material when you've used your backlog for the first series. This just isn't the songs, but they have to write 12 shows as well. Plus, the novelty is wearing off. Be smart like Gervais and get out while the gettin's good. I'd rather have 2 seasons of great shows than 10 seasons of crap (Friends, anyone???). They can still develop other ideas for shows, or keep putting out albums and touring.

+1 on Generation Kill and The Wire... but FX has been doing a hell of a job with The Shield (ending tomorrow...sniff) and Rescue Me, good competition to HBO.

I'm the Rhymenocerous.

davynelson 2008-09-01 05:10:17 PM
GREAT show overall
and good for them for not trying to milk it forever

one more season?
sounds about right.

Weirdnjfan1 2008-09-01 05:31:03 PM
Good, less stupidity on that channel. I don't understand how something like this survived when John for Cincinnati was canceled. It had so much potential to be something great, but no one watched it. I'm giving True Blood a chance next week, mainly because I'm a sucker for anything with Anna Paquin in it. I'm also looking foward to the return of Big Love and Entourage, although I have to wait till next year for Big Love to come back.

danduran 2008-09-01 05:38:25 PM
This is good news - keep the series short and of quality. Besides, we give bands 3 years to write a new album, when these guys have got to write a new album and a tv show.

/can't believe they were turned down by the networks here in NZ
//Bret was at one of my band's shows last year
///i think he left before we went on

Welcome to the thread about that show, genius. Thanks for being common.

Cuthbert Allgood: i LOVED the bowie one.

Were they about parties... in space? Does that freak you out?

I'm just happy that they're definitely having a second season. And for those that think the songs don't work out of context? My group covers "Most Beautiful Girl in the Room" and "Business Time" and even those unfamiliar with FOTC love them.

Well, the parents with little kids out too late get concerned looks, but whatevs.

Talk about a Tenacious D ripoff without the funny. Good riddance.

comoxgirl 2008-09-02 12:15:30 AM
DAMN! I thought they were so hilarious! Especially when Brett accidentally took his hit of acid, goes into the bathroom, and the walls are shifting back and forth and then they are panicing about a three way...well...they could always come over and crash at my house - there are a few musicians here anyways :)

There's an old saying in the music business.

"You've got your entire life to write your first album (season).
And six months to write your second."

its a lot of pressure, and I dont blame them.
