Yes, we're all going to turn into mindless zombies and feast on the unleaded.

Avgas has lead, and I come into contact with that at least once a week. Oh well.

Mmmmmm...lead. I remember having to double check to make sure I was filling up with unleaded and not leaded.

That farking sucks. I was born in Southern California in the 60's, and I remember the smog from L.A. blowing in so thick my lungs hurt. We would have smog alerts at school where they wouldn't let us go out and play. God knows how much crap I inhaled.

/Luckily for me, my family moved to Oregon after third grade.

naveline 2008-08-31 05:22:05 PM
Man. This is why I had to leave my loft apartment, it had lead paint.

$3000 a month and 100,000 square feet! That place was bigger than some elementary schools.

Humankind has known that lead is harmful since before Christ, too.
What the fark?

Damn environmental tree hugging types, taking away our lead. If lead is good enough for pipes its good enough for my car.

/Maybe I can get a car than runs on the tears of orphans.

I ended up with enough lead and antimony that my MD suggested chelation for it. Wow, does that suck ass. But it will lower your lead levels.

Your paying $3000 a month and you couldn't pay for / negotiate for a repainting?

You know its only dangerous if its chipping or your licking it?
You were licking it weren't you?

West Baltimore. There were about eight of us living there. We had an entire floor in a big former shoe factory. I had to leave on accounta my unborn fetus.

One girl was raising her kid there, but I didn't like how he was turning out. The lead paint chips would fall like snow when the wind came in. Elevator and fire system wasn't code either.

Lead paint only gets ingested when you eat it.
Lead pipes, however, should never lead to a bidet.
In case of the latter, How YOU doin?

Damn government, intruding on the free market!

Europe just started phasing out lead from gasoline in the last 10 years. The US started phasing it out in 1973. In fact, leaded gasoline is still legal in many parts of the EU.

This explains a lot.

They really don't know any better.

Grandpa: What the... what the hell is this?
John: That's lite beer.
Grandpa: Gee, I weigh ninety goddamn pounds, and you bring me this sloppin' foam?
John: Ariel's got me on a diet because the doc said my cholestorol's a little too high.
Grandpa: Well let me tell you something now, Johnny. Last Thursday, I turned 95 years old. And I never exercised a day in my life. Every morning, I wake up, and I smoke a cigarette. And then I eat five strips of lead. And for lunch, I eat a lead sandwich. And for a midday snack?
John: Lead.
Grandpa: Lead! A whole damn plate! And I usually drink my dinner. Now according to all of them flat-belly experts, I should've took a dirt nap like thirty years ago. But each year comes and goes, and I'm still here. Ha! And they keep dyin'. You know? Sometimes I wonder if God forgot about me. Just goes to show you, huh?
John: What?
Grandpa: Huh?
John: Goes to show you what?
Grandpa: Well it just goes... what the hell are you talkin' about?
John: Well you said you drink beer, you eat bacon and you smoke cigarettes, and you outlive most of the experts.
Grandpa: Yeah?
John: I thought maybe there was a moral.
Grandpa: No, there ain't no moral. I just like that story. That's all. Like that story.

/got nuthin'

Obama is old enough to remember leaded gasoline, unless of course he's forgotten it. In fact, gas in Indonesia was leaded till 2006.

IIRC leaded fuel was phased out in the states around 1990. However for about 20 years before that the lead level in it was fairly low. Unleaded became mandatory for almost anything built after about 1975 since leaded fuel would ruin the cat converters in short order.

Exposure to airborne lead from car exhaust, of course, is directly proportional to the density of automobiles in the area. So we can safely assume that people who live in densely urban areas have received a much higher exposure than those who live in suburban/rural areas.

Which explains why folks in big cities tend to vote Democrat. :)

It gets sad when no matter what the subject is, it devolves in to petty partisan political bullshiat.

As I recall, back in 1973, the conservatives and the oil companies were telling the communist hippie tree-huggers that if lead was forced out of gasoline that the oil companies would go belly-up, destroying the US economy and snowballing into a worldwide cataclysm of horror and war.

Now, I'm no historian, but it seems to me the oil companies somehow managed. In fact, I've heard a few of them are even profitable!

//Damn communist hippie tree-huggers!
