In spite of the lefty caterwauling that she is not 'experienced' and their constant searches for dirt on her, she is what she appears to be - a working mother who took on the establishment in Alaska and made it to the Governorship.

If she was the Democratic VP pick, the news and blogs would be filled with nothing but praise.

jenlen: who took on the establishment in Alaska

you mean by completely supporting and working with the establishment?

i would assume you're talking about ted stevens... the ted stevens she had in a campaign ad endorsing her... and the bridge to nowhere, that she has been on the record several times completely supporting, but then changed her tune when it became such a political albatross.

maybe you need to look into the dirt they're digging up a little closer.

This. Of course, the Kosterbation and Post-Huffing would be at epic levels, even when the long weekend finishes and most of the grown-ups come back. Mo Dowd is probably waiting her turn at bat.

At this point any speculations that reek of bitter ex-Gephardt staffers and "Santorum" Sullivan are insta-fail.

Absolutely, if she were on our side, I'd support her like mad. Then again, if she were the Democratic pick, she wouldn't think climate change is a myth, would support evolution, and would support female and gay rights.

Yes if she was pro-choice, anti-drilling and had a grasp of scientific fact then libs would support her. As it is she's just another bible thumping creationist idiot. She's the new Anita Bryant.

Sarah Palin is the Sanjaya of Vice Presidential picks. The PUMAs and others are treating the election like American Idol.

And for the record, "taking on the establishment" by using eminent domain to build a sports arena and levying windfall profits taxes on oil companies are hardly conservative values.

with tits as hard as a hornet's nest?
"Here's to the girl from the great Northwest," he sings, "with tits as hard as a hornet's nest." The crowd whistles its approval.

For the record, he's not singing about Palin, though the curvature and comeliness of McCain's surprise vice-presidential nominee pick are brought up by just about everyone here, man and woman, in a way that would make lower-48 liberals and feminists cringe. Palin-friendly talk show hosts gush how she'll wow 'em with her toughness - and her legs. State fair t-shirt vendor Kevin Beagley says he remembers one particular customer last year who bought a few t-shirts that said "Alaska: The Coldest State with the Hottest Governor". The buyer? Palin's own father, Chuck Heath.
/just an excuse to quote that because it amused me

Honestly, I think Creationism should automatically disqualify anyone for holding public office. It's pretty much concrete proof that your decision making skills are garbage and that you are going to be making choices based on ideology and not evidence.

A vote for a creationist is a vote for a retard.

I heard on Friday that she also got "a lot of amusing speeding tickets"... and I'm guessing they shut up about that quickly.

How does she support gay rights? She vetoed a bill taking rights away from homosexual couples and said "it would be unconstitutional for me to sign this". When you're in favor of vetoing a bill, you generally don't give an excuse for vetoing it.

I don't need superficial reasons to dislike her. She's anti-abortion and anti-evolution. She's a fundy, or atleast as fundy as a major candidate gets. I don't want that woman to be a shaky, possibly cancerous heartbeat from the presidency. And neither should ANYONE with a brain.

Haven't you been paying attention for the last seven plus years? That's the Republican way, man. Repeat anything enough times and eventually it becomes true. Kind of like "there's no place like home."

Her veto was a law that would have taken same-sex partner benefits from Alaskans. In essence, her veto protected that right.

She doesn't think that they should marry however.

It is more accurate to say she has a mixed record on gay rights.

I think most of the so called "caterwauling" is that all Obama supporters have heard from the McCain camp and other Republicans for months is that he is not experienced and then McCain goes and picks the most politically inexperienced vp candidate in history. And you can go, "but-but executive experience, but-but she took on the establishment" all you want, it just makes your hypocrisy even more glaring.

If she was the democratic vp pick I think you'd hear a great disturbance from Hillary fans, as if 18 million voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

She spoke out in favor of it before though. IIRC someone advised her the law was unconstitutional. Vetoing it was a measure to avoid being attached to a potentially controversial, struck down law. I don't thinks he disagreed with the law personally though, because she said she agreed with it.

And she gave an excuse for vetoing it. That doesn't scream "pro-gay rights".

If someone could find a statement from her saying that she was pro-gay rights, that would be different, but a veto with an accompanying statement that it would be illegal to sign it (the Alaskan Supreme Court just ruled the act unconstitutional), doesn't really cut it.

If the Democrats picked an anti-abortion, anti-evolution woman who was not Hillary as VP? That'd tear the party in half. Disliking her isn't due to who she is but what she claims to believe. At least for me and for every right minded person (a group I may or may not belong to :) ) it should be.

Or they would wonder why the Democrats selected a hardcore pro-lifer and creationist as part of the ticket, saying it was a desperation move to appeal to Evangelicals.

But hey, don't let common sense and logic get in the way of your assigned talking points.

Looks like the Republican War on ScienceTM just kicked up a notch.

If you Fark IndependentsTM think that ahem...genuine independents are going to get on board with this, you are horribly mistaken.

Also, the American public has known who Barack Obama was since 2004. When Sarah Palin was announced as McCain's VP pick, the choruses of, "uh....who?" could be heard everywhere. Whatever you want to say about "experience," this is significant.
