Rossi, the "GOP Party" candidate for governor in Washington has even gone so far to advertise at Talking Points Memo with a big message of "Change".

Poor guy, when he couldn't steal the Gov. election in 2004, even with Rove and co. trying (unsuccessfully) to get the WA USA to run politicized prosecutions for him, he's now had to revert to trying to convince the voters he's not even a Republican.

Funny how when the counted actual, physical ballots in 2004, the Democratic candidate won...

Mordant [TotalFark] 2008-08-31 12:40:32 PM
The Republicans still have the "independents" in their corner, they'll be alright.

My friends, McCain is used to being shunned. He was shunned four times a day when he was a POW in a prison camp.

FloydA [TotalFark] 2008-08-31 01:38:45 PM
Rossi is a dishonest, sore loser jackass who should get the hell out of politics and go back to his corrupt real estate scams. He was a criminal douchebag back in the '80s and he still is.

If you're considering voting for him, do some research on his time at Capretto & Clark and his buddy Melvin Heide before you vote.

Senator Gordon Smith is doing something similar in Oregon.

Snarfangel: Senator Gordon Smith is doing something similar in Oregon.

House Representative Virgil Goode's recent ad uses the tagline of "a strong, independent voice for Virginia's values"... and made no mention of his being a Republican.

This, incidentally, is the dumbass who objected to Ellison's being sworn in on Thomas Jefferson's copy of the Koran... and whose district includes Monticello and surrounding area.

If by some odd twist of fate I were to somehow get elected to high national office, I'd insist on being sworn in on a copy of the U.S. Constitution.

/and if it were a state office, I'd think really hard about being sworn in on a copy of the Oregon Constitution, because even the weird parts would guide my actions more than some religious book.

Does the Anarchist's Bible count?

Mr. Slippyfist 2008-08-31 03:05:34 PM
FTADino Rossi, a Republican who lists his party preference as "GOP Party,"

Rossi also stops at "ATM machines" and enters in his "PIN number".

ManatOrr: Won't swear in on a Bible? Why do you hate America?

I've read the Bible, and I've read the Constitution, and I like the latter more.

/seriously, I went to church almost every Sunday growing up, can still name all 66 books of the King James Bible, and I used to have large portions of the Gospel of John memorized for a Bible quiz team. I have a lot of good friends who are Catholic and Protestant, and roomed with a Muslim in college (though granted, he wasn't very devout). I still think the U.S. Constitution did more to help the world more in two hundred years than the Bible did in two thousand, which is why it pisses me off no end to see politicians trample on it.

It was pretty funny when Rossi filed suit and all he got for his trouble was Gregoire winning by an even larger margin.

A Dark Evil Omen 2008-08-31 03:18:47 PM
My wife and I saw this ad when it was broadcast.

We've been laughing about it for days.

Then again, Rossi's obviously desperate for any kind of leverage or support. The Rossi faction in the Seafair parade was basically three people, Dino and his wife, and the applause and uproar that had been going on the entire parade basically stopped when they came through. They might as well have paraded a dead rotting whale carcass in front of the crowd.

Rossi's TV commercials have just gotten pathetic. He didn't just abandon stumping for McCain. He's got full blown Obamania going on. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, except he's a corrupt opportunist with political views slightly to the right of Ghengis Khan.

Given the chance he'll gut educational spending and programs for children in poverty. At the same time he's against birth control. We're not even talking about abortion. He's against the pill. Because what we really need is more unwanted kids with less resources for them. Yup, that'll fix the state budget. How in the seven hells does this guy think that anyone will equate him with Obama? Oh, right.

Rossi is everything that Democrats always say that Republicans are. He's a perfect caricature of corruption, elitism, assholery and short-sightedness.

I think Gregoire makes a good governor. I think she also is a very poor self-advocate. This election is hers to lose.

I mean, DINO EFFING ROSSI???

moothemagiccow 2008-08-31 03:53:04 PM

I thought it was a rogue macro.

67 Beetle 2008-08-31 04:11:58 PM
Eh, if it goes on long enough, you'll see the Republican Party disappear like the Federalists did about 200 years ago. Then the Democratic Party will run unopposed for a few cycles and eventually split up with the Kucinich-type Dems on one side and the more "conservative" Dems on another. Some major issue will crop up to drive the split.

FooDog 2008-08-31 04:16:15 PM

I'm still pissed at her about the online gambling. I was actually considering voting Rossi, but thought about it, and realized that the one issue that I agree with him on is not equal to the 10+ issues I strongly disagree with him on. That and being a crybaby about the last election.

Besides, he makes some seriously shiatty wine.

I'd vote for an atheist who followed the Constitution religiously over a Christian who followed the Bible politically.
