Isn't that convenient- the massively unpopular president won't be sharing the stage with McCain.

How many McCain fans ever actually had the ball to stand up against Bush when it counted ? Most of them defended everything the scumbag did, because they care more about their team than their country. And still do.

This will not end well for the GOP.

If Bush appears onstage with McCain, it provides easy fodder for the Dems to continue the McSame meme.

If not, then it'll be obvious that McCain doesn't have the backing of the highest elected official in his party.

__________

It's also interesting to note that Cheney, the incumbent VP, made no attempt to run for President. What does it say about your party when your current VP does not TRY to become President when your current President's term is up?

And when has this ever happened, besides this time?

The incumbent party lost that/those election(s), didn't they?

The biggest question is, "Will the Depends shipment arrive in time for the convention?".

The man's had four heart attacks, had popliteal artery aneurysms, wears an implanted defibrillator, and has stents in his knees to prevent blood clots. Not exactly the picture of health to run for President.

Not to mention he's a slimy sack of crap, who was one of the main voices behind an ill-advised and unpopular invasion and occupation.

Besides, becoming president would be a demotion in Cheney's eyes, I think.

Got to hand it to the Republicans. They know how to look presidential, concerned and on the ball around election time, and they know they can pretty much do whatever the fark they want any other time and enough people will look the other way to keep them in office.

Look at how lovingly Santorum is gazing at Bush's thumb. Must be some fond memories.

I can see Bush now, sitting in the Command Chair in the National Hurricane Crisis Control Center, with his headset on, controlling all the resources at his disposal to make sure the southern coast is safe and secure as he redirects the nation's response personally.

Oh, with Cheney by his side, apparently.

So instead, they pick a guy who's already passed the life expectancy of a white male in the US and has had cancer on at least 4 occasions, who very well might die of old age before 2012.

And the person picked as his running mate/replacement should he not complete his term for any reason? Some bimbo from some backwater town whose only foreign policy experience is being in Canadian airspace when she flies to/from Alaska.

Gustav: Bush can't make it to the convention for a couple of hours.

what a difference an election year makes.

has a candidate ever dropped in the polls after a convention?
this could be historic after all.

RanDomino 2008-08-31 11:41:31 AM
Considering that all the delegates are here? No. All this media jabber about possibly canceling the convention is just an attempt to make it seem like Republicans give a shiat about other human beings.

GodsTumor 2008-08-31 11:43:13 AM
Maybe W could swing by for the last day of the convention...
you know to congratulate John McCain after his arousing acceptance speech with a big hug?

Yes, we Republicans used our secret weather satellite to cause another storm to attack NOLA so that Bush wouldn't have to speak at our convention. How ever did you uncover this massive, astonishing conspiracy?

RobertBruce [TotalFark] 2008-08-31 12:57:39 PM

Antidamascus 2008-08-31 01:01:01 PM
I know this may be bad form for Fark....

But I don't think even Bush is dumb enough to stand up on a stage and give a speech on how great the country is and how great John McCain is going to do continuing his work, yadda yadda yadda, while another hurricane hits.

That would be the end, period.

But it's much better for Republicans if he's even in Washington acting like he's waiting for phone calls.

gustav karma (new window)

bookman 2008-08-31 01:52:04 PM
OK, I've got it! Here's the Ebil scenario:

1) Chaney uses his Hurricane Machine to make sure that Gustov would hit New Orleans, just at the time of the Republican Convention.

2) Bush and Chaney will then coordinate efforts to "aid" the Brown victims of Gustov (while, of course, secretly doing everything in their power - using FEMA black helicopters - to hurt Brown People).

3) This effort (2) gives Bush and Chaney an excuse to NOT attend the convention, thus distancing themselves from McCain, which boosts MaCain with the voters.

4) Finally, since the nomination is already swen up and a mere formality, McCain will use the Republican Convention to raise PRIVATE aid funds for Gustov victims, thus appealing to voters across a wide spectrum.

5) Due to his selfless dedication to helping fellow 'Merikans in time of need, McCain fires up the electorate to such an extent that he sweeps into office with a 75%-25% win in November and large Repuglican majorities in both House and Senate.

6) He then puts Sarah Palin in charge of the FEMA Death Camps to "process" all the Brown People, Gays and Liberals.

ZOMFG!!!! IT ALL FITS! This is a plot worthy of Ming The Merciless. Muhahahaaaaaa!!!!

I'm gonna post this on DailyKOS. I'm sure it will have a very good run there!

Cheney was never going to run for the office himself, this was pretty clear from the beginning. He was chosen to shore up the conservatives and for the foreign experience.

But why isn't Cheney going to be at the convention? Does it really take both the President and VP to take of Gustav? And exactly what are they going to do?
