When is the Chinese government going to get it that they are the only ones who buy their vilification of the Dalai Lama and that pretty much the rest of the world thinks that they're being pricks about Tibet?

I don't think they really care if anyone buys into it, I'm sure they don't even really care about the Dalai Lama or Tibet. The situation is simply that if they yield, they'll appear weak. And appearing strong to the rest of the world is of the utmost importance to the Chinese government. Probably on account of their...(whistles and points downwards)...you know...

Here's hoping he has many more years left in him. As an Atheist, this man is one of the very few people I've ever felt comfortable referring to as "His Holiness".

More than any other religious leader I know, he embodies the notion of living one's faith completely, in such a way as to serve as an admirable example for people of ANY religion.

He has always struck me as one of the few true "good guys" left.

/And he's a big hitter

well, he can't reincarnate yet, it's probably still illegal.

Yeah, but do you want him to lead your nation? Remember when he was ousted from Tibet his estate included nice number of slaves?

ScotterOtter 2008-08-31 03:45:59 PM
Raise your hand if you truly believe the Dalai Lama is a reincarnate and deserves a lavish lifestyle on the backs of the Tibetan people.

All I know is that I would rather be born in a communist country with a chance at a decent life than to be born as a peasant under Lama rule.

I'd raise my hand for Bobby Hill.

ScotterOtter: deserves a lavish lifestyle on the backs of the Tibetan people

Your ignorance is astounding. He lives a very simple lifestyle. Any "lavishness" he enjoys is afforded him by those governments who invite him for official visits.

Compared to any other major religious leader...or even most televangelists...the Dalai Lama lives the life of a pauper.

ScotterOtter: Raise your hand if you truly believe the Dalai Lama is a reincarnate

It's no more ludicrous than accepting the infallibility of the Pope or the divine inspiration credited to most mainstream religious heads.

Try researching the Lama lifestyle IN Tibet, not while in exile. And, you make no counterpoint regarding the treatment Tibetan peasants under Lama rule. I'm curious to hear it

You are correct

When you state "low-lives" are you talking about the Tibetan serfs (slaves) that served Tenzin Gyatso?

What a joke this guy is. It really doesn't take too much digging to learn Tenzin is only the lesser of two evils. The fact that Tenzin's opposition, China, is formally atheist has had a very large part in the U.S. saintifying this liar.
