I get a kick out of the Ric Romero headlines when it actually turns out to be Ric Romero. Do you suppose he's aware of his notoriety on Fark?

Anything Ric does is funny, 'cause, you know, he's Ric Romero!

The guy should get his own sitcom.

Holy Crap! It really is Ric. When he gets a national news program, you will all be to blame.

Slesfo 2008-08-31 10:11:23 AM
Well they struggle financially as it is. The price of operating planes and saying airport staff AND airline crew is about break even with the price of tickets.

Crocodile 2008-08-31 10:11:35 AM
To be fair, he actually reports that the fees are here to stay, not that they exist.

I mean, I love Ric's role on fark as the Champion of the Obvious, but sometimes we really exaggerate it for effect. This is clearly one of those times.

Slesfo 2008-08-31 10:14:09 AM

My guess: Romero had to phone in or go to an old, rejected story for one submission. His boss chews him out for it, until they see that 90% of the hits to the site are for Romero's retarded entry. They repeat the "old news past its prime" strategy, with similar results. After that, it's "for some reason the retards like this crap, so you're gonna keep giving it to them Rick."

Has fark caused Rick Romero?

More and more people are using devices called "pens" to write on paper. And if what I've seen is any indication, quills could be a thing of the past. Unlike quills, there is no need to dip pens into ink bottles. And reports show, pens are very inexpensive to purchase. So if you're thinking about getting rid of your quill and trying something new, give pens a try.

Just flew United from IND -> ORF, paid $15 for my checked bag. Doesn't bother me at all. I'm working for a week, and needed the clothes. Didn't want to gate-check, because I had a 3-hour layover in IAD. And, best of all.....wait for it......the United ticket was significantly cheaper than any of the others. It all works out.

Plane fuel consumption rises directly as the weight of the plane. Period. Airlines SHOULD be charging for checked luggage. And maybe carryon. By the pound. And maybe people should be charged by weight (oh, no, I'm screwed- 6"6", 275). Maybe soon it'll mean no more $50 excursion fares from Newark to Disney World, where they airline bleeds money on that flight and the rest of us pay to make Fark Air break even. But this may actually be a step in the right direction: a good, survivable business model for airlines. Imagine that.

/No, I won't take it back.

I can't wait to see people going through the metal detector and then having to step on a scale afterwards. Wouldn't it be great if you could get a discount for being a waif-like heroin chic bulimic? My advice to America: Start vomiting and look pretty now or pay exorbitant plane ticket prices!

I totally agree. Fatties should pay more since they weigh more. Or bodybuilders. If you weigh 300 pounds, you pay more, no matter why. And if you mention "thyroid problem", you're banned for 3 months from that airline.

Amputees should pay way less too. Why should some guy who needs NO leg room have to pay as much as I do?

rico567: Plane fuel consumption rises directly as the weight of the plane. Period. Airlines SHOULD be charging for checked luggage.

That is a fallacy. Fuel consumption on a fully loaded aircraft is normally 15% to 20% more than an empty one.

The big issue with the cost (or lack thereof) of flying is that the legacy Airlines hold to the old fare structures established by regulation, and they are afraid to take the next step. Flying is 1/2 the price it was 10 years ago, and yet fuel costs have gone up 5x.

If you want a good example of airline goofiness - If i fly from SoCal to houston, i will pay $800 R/T for a ticket, but if I fly SoCal to south florida, i will pay $300 R/T for a ticket, and STOP IN HOUSTON.

The 'stache strikes again. Ric NEVER fails to satisfy. Of all the fark cliches - nay, of all the web memes since conception of the innertubes, Ric is unique in his lack of fail. This is fail in itself, but for Ric, this means double-plus-unfail. Ric is a God. And, as Brown Sauce mentions above, a sex symbol. Which is even better.

SkyDog1972 2008-08-31 03:07:09 PM
According to the video, Romero says airline baggage fees are "here to stay, at least for a while".

But then again, can't that be said for absolutely anything?

Ric Romero on News:
"The Democratic Convention is here to stay, at least for a while."

Ric Romero on Weather:
"Hurricane Gustav is here to stay, at least for a while."

Ric Romero on Sports:
"The Angels 3-game winning streak is here to stay, at least for a while."
