UPDATE: Hmm. This Gallup horserace poll shows Obama retaining his lead. Same at Rasmussen. So either Zogby's found something everyone else has missed, or it's a bad poll.

yeah.

also, seriously, stop watching the polls every day.

Wow, it's a fun day when conservatives become devotees of Zogby. First when the outlier McCain +5 poll came out, and now this.

Hey, I don't care what the numbers show right now, but with the incumbent's popularity rating below 35%, a Democratic potted plant should have a 15 pt lead right after his convention. The numbers this close do not bode well for Obama.

Who cares? There have been exactly zero presidential debates.

Huh? I do not know what you are talking about, seriously. Did the McCain group come up with 15%? I originally wrote 20%, but thought that might be high. Whatever, his lead should show larger than it appears at this time.

No.

There simply aren't that many "undecideds" anymore....

2008 (and perhaps the next few elections) will be fought over 5-7% of the electorate.

maybe he makes more than $250k per annum. now, according to mccain, that doesn't make him "rich" - he'd have to make $5M per annum for that - but that's a pretty nice living, unless you live in manhattan or something!

It's so funny to watch the various talking heads on various cable "news" networks quote polls. MSNBC says "Obama now leading by 8 and here's why...", FOX says "McCain has made this race a dead heat as a result of...". Even though 5 other polls came out the same day which can contradict both of them. It;s all b*llshiat, and it's bad for ya!

Yukon Callmeal 2008-08-31 11:31:36 AM
Add Rasmussen to those finding the Obama bounce totally gone already.

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday-the day before the Republican National Convention is scheduled to begin-shows Barack Obama ahead of John McCain by three percentage points both with and without leaners. That's exactly the same edge Obama enjoyed a week ago on the eve of the Democratic National Convention."

And this poll still would have one day in it that was conducted prior to Palin's announcement.

Guess that article about droves of independents running away from Palin might be... misguided? Cherry-picking numbers? Liberals seeing what they want to see? Take your pick.

John Paul Jones These two statements frame your ignorance perfectly. Unless you make 2.5 million a year.

No, they frame his experience and lack of gullibility perfectly.

Democrats often run on tax-cuts for the middle class. In fact, outside of Walter Mondale, they almost always do.

Democrats, once in office, generally change their minds, as did Clinton when he said "I have never worked so hard to try and do one, but I just can't."

Those who have paid attention to what happens are justified in being more than a tad skeptical about Obama's claims of wanting to cut taxes on the middle class, and to assume he wants to do the opposite, especially when you consider just how much in additional spending he has proposed.

Yukon Callmeal 2008-08-31 11:39:56 AM
Tor_Eckman: I suggest that anyone who wants to get an accurate picture of the electoral tally wait to see how it looks after the GOP convention, plus a few days to let the natural settling of the convention bounce occur.

Anything right now is distorted by various bounces (the Biden bounce, the DNC bounce, the Palin bounce) that almost always fade nearly completely. Anything at this time next week will be distorted by the RNC bounce.

Look in 10 days or more.

How come people bring up that Obama doesn't have a 20+ point lead over McCain, and that shows that Obama isn't doing well? What about McCain? According to them, if McCain has more experience, more well-known, a POW and a natural-born leader, and he is going up against someone who is an empty suit, no experience and is a flash in the pan, then shouldn't McCain be dominating this election?

Why are they more concerned that Obama isn't winning by 20+ points and not concerned that McCain isn't winning by 20+ points?

Ooooohhh, you told them. SNAP!!!! A WINNAR IS YOU!

Read Obama's plans. He doesn't want to give hand outs to keep someone on their ass... he wants to give a hand so that someone can get back up on their feet.

His mother used food stamps... but she worked her ass off, got off of them, went to school, and succeeded. Something she could not have done without the brief assistance.

Unless you are making more than $700k/yr, Obama will give you the largest tax cuts. However, his tax plan will also put a pretty good strangle on businesses' ability to invest in themselves in order to grow and create new jobs.
