(Starpulse) Cool Hank Williams III releases "Damn Right Rebel Proud," a mix of disturbingly dark rock and good ol' country, which will contain the 10-minutes symphony in three movements "P.F.F." dedicated to toilet rocker G.G. Allin   (starpulse.com) divider line 38

heh, i saw him live once. his first set he came out, looking all country and everything with his hat and boots and did mostly his grandads stuff. wat struck me as odd was his stand up bass player - he was right out of CBGB's. on top of that, the entire time he had this growl on his face as he sneered at the crowd. i thought it was odd, and funny as shiat.

then he did his second set, which was mostly his country stuff. same setup, but the CBGB dude had an electric bass this time.

then, during the second intermission, most people left. i'm sitting there like, wtf? why are they leaving? then out comes hank, in a cutoff morrissey tshirt, long hair, and a warlock guitar. they break into the worst thrash metal i've ever heard. i mean this shiat was HORRIBLE. but i found it comical too... not exactly what i expected when i was taken to see hank the 3rd.

the previous album "Straight to Hell" I remember thinking that it was the only country record i really liked in the past 15-20 years. On top of that, it had a 2nd disk of weird experimental sound collages...really intesting stuff, but like bales said before, I also heard a lot of story, the guy's kind of too out of control, apparently

God bless you GG Allin. I'd say the world would be a better place for having known you, but I'd be lying. I just wish you were around to throw your feces on today's generation of kids who think they're hardcore.

He made the phrase "Eat shiat and die" a personal creed.

THIS. GG would fix all this whole emo crap.

And GG did record some outlaw country, so I guess HIII is returning the favor/praise.

Hank III is the shiat!

You have to see him live...one of the best shows I have ever seen

Living in Dallas, I get to see the good Reverend an awful lot. I've seen Nashville Pussy an awful lot too, usually with Reverend Horton Heat, and they too kick all kinds of ass.

Unfortunately, I've yet to see Hank III. The last time he rolled through, I was either working or I found out about the concert a day after it happened.

Seems like the guy tries way too hard to be punk.

Being an Atlanta native I am fortunate enough to get to see Nashville Pussy a lot. They consistently put on a great show. Seen Hank III a couple times too and he's always been pretty good and I do love Straight to Hell. But I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Supersuckers yet. Talk about a farking excellent band.

I caught RHH and Nashville Pussy together earlier this year. Add III to the bill and I think my farkin' head would explode.

In other news...

FTA: "P.F.F." (you can guess what it stands for)

I can't. Maybe not enough coffee yet. Anyone?

But seriously, what does PFF stand for?

Saw him in Superjoint Ritual in Dallas at Trees in ,I think, 2002. Very good show.

That would be Geoff Firebaugh of Hillbilly Casino, a great guy and a great band...

The SUPERSUCKERS you say.....yeah saw them a couple weeks ago here in Columbus, OH. Great Show, Great Band!!!

Oh, and my FARK name is sorta taken from them :)

Seen Hank III a number of times in Dallas and Fort Worth over the last several years.

He is truly superb no doubt.

However,I really kinda think he lays it out a bit too thick if you know what I mean. I am NOT suggesting he isn't genuine.
It just appears he tries too hard sometimes I think.

...of course I shall now angrily respond to my own above "troll":

Hey jackass!
You think he "tries too hard"??
Guess what,he f*cking succeeds at it.

So uh,yeah.
I have to say,
Hank III is indeed quite awesome.

Heh, I thought I was the only person to listen to that second disc more than once.

I really dug his last album. As far as the Reverend goes, if you have not seen him live you owe it to yourself to go at least once, they are amazing players.

I smoked a joint with Hank, his old fiddle player and Duane Dennison from Jesus Lizard in Banff. I've seen a hundred live shows and that one ranked in the top 5 easily.

/Please come back to Canukistan Hank!!!!

Unknown is the mad notes, went to his concert just trying to get a Squidbillies DVD signed, what unfolded was one of the best country rock performances I've ever seen.

Heroin is a bad thing.

Anyone who sees Hank 3 live can see lots of talent, but he wastes most of his recording time trying to flip off Nashville and be oh-so-badass. He could be making Johnny Cash/Merle Haggard level country records and he doesn't. It's a shame.

Unknown Hinson is great too. Get the cds, see him live.

D.F.F. was the name of the GG's song.

yeah...I think that is what I was attempting to say above when I said "he tries too hard" in the whole "I'm too badass for Nashville" type schtick he does.

I just feel guilty complaining because he is so damn awesome though.

I'm shocked. Barneyfifesbullet made a comment that wasn't full of DUH.
(Don't forget, though, that this guy is a fan of Asia and Rush and who knows what else.)

The last time I saw Hank in Chicago, I was kicked out of the show before he he even performed. Still had a great time on his tour bus until my friend pissed in the sink. The time I saw him in Milwaukee, I was dancing around to his second "punk" set and ended up breaking my foot in three places. Was out of work for six months.

The last time I hung out with GG, he was staying at the YMCA in Ann Arbor and I bought him two forties of Schlitz Blue Bull. I walked him to the bus station the next day to go to NYC.

This could be awesome.

Lawn. You. Get Off.

I kinda understand the complaints about Hank III that he doesn't seem that genuine or that he lays it on a bit thick. I once thought that way.

It took me awhile to warm up, but now I love him. He's absolutely amazing. Ignoring his lineage, if you just start listing his achievements people eventually start to think you're lying.

-Didn't sign to a country label until he got sued for child support. It was completely out of the blue - the mother turned up at his place two years after they'd had a one night stand with a kid.
-Battled his record label in courts for creative control, all while releasing bootlegs to support himself.
-Played bass in Superjoint Ritual.
-Played drums in Arson Anthem.
-Let's not forget his amazing thrash band Assjack.
-Owns Matt Pike's old Green Amps (from Sleep/High on Fire).
-Oh, and he also put out Straight to Hell, easily the best country record of the last decade.

I can't wait for Damn Right, Rebel Proud.

craigdamage 2008-09-01 09:24:11 AM
Like I said earlier--I didn't mean to suggest he isn't GENUINE.
I am way too in total adoration of his music to think that.

jvcturntable Owns Matt Pike's old Green Amps

Do you know the story on that one?
I am curious. A few years ago when High On Fire played Dallas I noticed that both Pike and Rice (old bassist) had black taped over the "Green" logos on their amp heads. I asked them about it and Matt politely said he "isn't at liberty to discuss" but basically I got the impression that there was some legal matter and or falling out with Green.
