Sorry to tell you this subby, but Dan Quayle actually got elected, unlike Lloyd "disgrace to Texas" Bentsen.

Yes, but Quayle also treated Murphy Brown like she was a real person.

palin brings a lot to the ticket...

sarah palin understands the importance of bondage between a mother and child. she knows that the future will be a better tomorrow, and that we don't want to go back to tomorrow, we want to go forward. she understands what a waste it is to lose one's mind. or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. how true that is.

she is also a strong asset with foreign policy. she knows that we have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a *part* of NATO. and that we have a firm commitment to europe. we are a *part* of europe. she knows the dangers we face in the world today. she believes we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy - but that could change.

she also is a strong asset on the domestic front. she knows that quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children. she wants to make sure that we're going to have the best-educated american people in the world.

sarah palin has made good judgements in the past, and she have made good judgements in the future. she is proof that people that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history. when you talk about her, illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it.

I'm not too impressed with insta-polls like this. However, Palin isn't all that impressive either, unless you like moose.

Bacontastesgood 2008-08-30 09:20:31 PM
Quayle was treated pretty unfairly. He really wasn't that bad, and he had over 10 years in congress before being picked.

Ferraro was more shaky and more obviously a tactic rather than "best for the job". 54% of women agreed and voted for Reagan.

Palin is worse than either of those. She's more of an Admiral Stockdale level pick.

This is a beyond cynical choice. So many great, strong, Republican women he could have chosen from. Of course, if he had chosen one of them it would have been even clearer what a weak candidate John McCain is. Try again in 4 years.

The anti-Obama only want to talk about Obama. Never McCain. Most of the time the RNC's web site is all Obama with zero mention of McCain.

She'll be a 25th Amendment Vice President. As soon as McCain needs a real VP, she'll resign for family reasons, and McCain in failing health will basically appoint his successor.

It was disturbing before the primaries were finished. After the primaries, the all-Obama-all-the-time was to be expected.

mikemoto: Sorry to tell you this subby, but Dan Quayle actually got elected, unlike Lloyd "disgrace to Texas" Bentsen.

He got elected alongside a very bright and well-respected statesman with a wealth of domestic and foreign policy experience, who was coming into office on the heels of perhaps the most well-liked president of the 20th century, who also happened to be in pretty terrific physical and mental shape, making the role of vice-president less visible.

And we hadn't lived through Dick Cheney yet.

Argh2 2008-08-30 09:34:51 PM
Basically, McCain is telling the American people that in the event of his death or incapacity, in peace or war, this is the one person he wants to take over the office of President.

That OK with everyone?

Palin agrees, she is as hard core as social conservatives go, why do you think Rush and friends have such a stiffy for her? (I mean, aside from the obvious reason)

Here's what John McCain had to say about Dan Quayle's candidacy in 1988:
"Quayle was chosen to appeal to a younger generation of Americans and his looks were praised by Senator John McCain, who said 'I can't believe a guy that handsome wouldn't have some impact.'"

Here's what Sarah Palin had to say about Sarah Palin's candidacy in 2008:
INTERVIEWER: Do you feel ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency? SARAH: Absolutely. Yup, yup. Especially with a good team around us.

Talk about confidence!

Can you please tell your wife, for me, one woman to another that this is not a good idea. Palin doesn't have leadership skills to run a nation of 300 million strong. And if she screws up, NO ONE will ever vote for ANOTHER WOMAN for another one or two generations. Or even mention nominating a woman. See the end of Thatcher's career.

That's a position. I also think it sucks, but Sarah Palin has the same position, and Pat Buchanan, and millions of other Americans on the far right. It has little bearing on whether either of them could handle a crisis or fix the economy. If something had happened to Poppy, we would have been OK with Quayle, just like we were with Ford and LBJ. We would not have been OK with the likes of Agnew, and Palin seems a lot more like Agnew.

Quayle was basically ridiculed not for his positions but for being a child and a "dummy", neither of which were true. All politicians say dumb stuff from time to time. He was a victim of foot in mouth disease, getting off on the wrong foot and lazy journalism.
