The governor of LA is taking the appropriate action this time, unlike the idiot they had three years ago. The local authorities have to cooperate before the feds can help. But don't let that get in the way of your Bush hating.

BushCo does not have any say whatsoever in where the NG troops go, or when they are deployed. It's up to the governor of the state.

Well, yes they did. They learned that regardless of the desire to maintain state sovereignty, some state and local govts don't roll (or float) that way, so you have to babysit them if something bad might happen.

I REALLY hope this trend ends before Dems get meaningful control of the Federal government.

I'm sure that's all he had in mind yes. You know Bush. he doesn't like to grab power.

LemSkroob 2008-08-30 08:25:30 PM
If i understand this right, its worse if it hits to the west of the city (as projected) than if it goes to the east, correct? The spin of the storm pushes the worse of the storm to the east of its center, i believe.

puffy999 [TotalFark] 2008-08-30 08:25:58 PM
Assuming of course Blanco decides to take back the governorship. ;)

So...all the troops are going to NOLA, versus Jefferson Parish.

Anything significantly different about those two places that might engender a belief that one will be more lawless than the other?

Never been there, so don't know.

lexslamman 2008-08-30 08:26:42 PM
Take note that Gustav is now over Cuba and it is done strengthening for a few hours - but when it gets over the gulf loop current, there is enough heat potential and favorable upper-level wind conditions for this hurricane to break Wilma's record for lowest pressure in the Atlantic basin.

To quote Samuel L. Jackosn "Hold onto your butts".

Because we could bomb the storm? Put troupes up at a command post saying "no storms past here"? What's the logic here? Besides the National Guard mostly handles stateside issues anyway, even in non-war times. *shakes head*

lexslamman 2008-08-30 08:27:44 PM
most oil production in the Gulf is being shut down today. We all know what that is going to mean for our wallets.

Maybe NOLA could be good farm country.

It used to be.

We're just plain old out of money for crap like rebuilding cities that get erased every summer by mom nature. Hell, we can't even rebuild the ones that are just falling apart because the money moved out.

And the GOP has squeezed away the federal revenue stream that pays for infrastructure upkeep.
