Well, either way we go, we fail.
Gotta come up with something new and different...

Personal wealth? Wait... wait, no... the Marxists would have a field day. I'm gonna go with education and overall responsiveness of intellect. Others might not use that criteria.

Fail.

If no one is ready to be President, then vote on the issues. We know next to nothing about where Palin stands on them, which makes her a nullity.

Some conservatives are arguing that the VP position isn't really that big of a deal anyway. In that case, McCain is treating her as a secretary.

Either way, massive fail for McCain. The only reason people care is that this gives conservatives a pretext to pretend like they're excited about voting for John McCain.

You know what makes this so much better? These crazy bastards actually like Palin. This isn't a snowjob. They aren't pretending to dig her like they had to with McCain.... they legitimately like her.

I'm so glad he picked her. Because when the republicans lose in November, it's going to hurt them. Bewilder them. It's not going to be a case of "Well I didn't like him anyway..." or shiat like that. They are going to be pissed.

Of course, this scenario hinders on non-republicans deciding that a man who just passed the average life expectancy for a white american male probably shouldn't have a small-town beauty queen as his second in command. I'd like to be more certain about people reaching this conclusion, but we still fight about Evolution and don't let gay people see their partners in hospitals.

All of a sudden, liberals are in near-universal agreement that experience matters. Except that their candidate for P has accomplished less in his short career than the GOP's VP has in her career.

Meanwhile, by the conservatives' alleged flip-flop, their ticket remains completely qualified but by the liberals' flip-flop, the Democratic ticket is not.

Update your talking points e-mail.

Being a governor for 20 months does not make you more qualified than a 8 year state legislator and a 3+ year Senator who is serving on both a foreign policy committee and a Homeland security committee.

TripSixes: SUBBYFAIL. Reeves is a liberal.

Liberal or Conservative, he's right. None of the candidates have any real experience for the Executive seat. For all the posturing that the Presidency isn't a place for "on the job training" pretty much every President from Washington to GW had to do exactly that.

Truman, LBJ, Nixon, and George Bush are the only Presidents in recent memory who had any White House experience--as VPs--before stepping into the big chair by election. Reagan. Clinton. Kennedy. They all had to step into the chair without real preparation--they certainly had some experience in other areas, but not for the White House.

This spotty and inconsistent touting of experience is what bothers me. McCain's experience as a Senator is good, but Obama's and Biden's isn't? Suddenly, Palin's lack of experience in politics is good, but Obama's is bad? Or her experience as a Governor--who hasn't even served 2 years--is suddenly better than McCain's 26 years of service? Or Obama's or Biden's?

Which is it? Settle on a definition or just admit, that you're reaching for justifications. And that is all that it is.

How about we try this?

Look at the positions, and look at the history. Look at what they have accomplished, and who they run with. Decide from that. What they say, and what they've done. Not what their wives were wearing. Not what was said about them by a pundit a year ago. Or their opponent six months ago in a contested race. Look at the record, and base your opinion on that, and not what some talking head who IS paid to either stir shiat up, or throw weight behind a candidate has said.

Record. History. Positions. Do you trust this candidate? Do you think they will do a good job? Everything else is just obfuscation and distraction.

CaptMacMillian: Think the RNC has that as an attachment in each of their e-mails?

Here's why this whole argument pisses me off. Most of these conservatives screeching 'hypocrite!' have no idea what that term actually means.

Hypocrisy: The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness.

Conservatives, especially their nominee for president, John McCain, lambasting Obama for a lack of experience, and then nominating someone for a position that may assume the presidency that has, arguably, less political experience, is hypocritical. It shows that their 'concern' regarding experience was simply a talking point designed to obfuscate the minds of the voting public.

Liberals will be wont to point out this hypocrisy. Conservatives feel that liberals are criticizing Palin for her lack of experience by pointing out this dissonance of words vs. action, thus this makes liberals hypocritical.

This is not necessarily true. Pointing out dissonance in the opposition is NOT the same as accusing them of what they have been prone to accusing.

Since he is at the top of the ticket Obamas experience is an issue. If Palin was at the top of the ticket her then experience would have been more of an issue.
As it is she has more than enough time at the wheel to give a few speeches and represent the office.

So far as issues around assuming the throne: I'm alot more comfortable with the idea of Her assuming the office than I am with the idea of Biden.

You're not a Republican success unless you've funneled taxpayers money to your business cronies. See: Republicans, 1980-2008

I did a quick mathematical analysis to see who has the most experience....

Sarah Palin

Business Owner- 4 years (0.25 pts per) 1 pt
Mayor-- Minor Executive Experience- (0.5pts per year) 1 pt
AK oil and gas ethics Commissioner (0.5pts per yr) 1 pt
Governor- Major Executive Experience (2pts per year) 3 pts

Barack Obama

Community Activist-- 0 points
Lawyer-- 0 points
State Senate- Minor Legislative Experience (.5pts per) 4 points
US Senate- Major Legislative Experience (1pt per) 3 points

So, Obama wins 7 to 6. Then I remembered. I'm comparing the bottom of the Republican ticket to the top of the Democratic ticket, so it's really a stupid comparison.

RadioAaron 2008-08-30 05:44:37 PM
Goddamn, this whole experience argument is retarded.

All the Dem candidates had experience. The two least-"experienced" candidates made it the furthest.

And if experience mattered AT ALL, McCain would not have chosen an 18-month governor of a state with a population less than Seattle-Tacoma, whose prior experience was Mayor of a town with far less people than Obama represented in IL's 13th Legislative District. Republicans are desperate, and the Palin choice, while it may prove to be successful among the cheesecakers, is nothing short of pandering at its lowest form.

Anyway, back to your WHARRGARBL, already in progress.

Not just a town, a town of less than 9,000 people. $2,222 of debt for every man, woman and child. That's probably something like $7-8k per household. That's actually pretty hard to do without embezzlement or other misappropriation of funds, so she has that going for her. Maybe.

Because it bears repeating:

img501.imageshack.us

Obama:

- Has pushed for more transparency in the U.S. government via a bill that requires that the Federal Budget be accessible to all Americans via the Internet (that contraption that John McCain (W) is still learning to use)

- With Reid and Feingold, passed what the WaPo called the most sweeping ethics reforms to ever emerge from Congress

- Has reached across party lines to work toward locking down nuclear weapons around the world

- The "Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act" passed in 2007 to improve the treatment of war veterans returning from battle, began as an Obama legislation called the "Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act."

- Sponsored a bill that got health care for 154K uninsured Illinois residents, focusing largely on children

- Obama also passed sweeping ethics ligislation while in the Illinois senate

- Rejected lobbyist money and instead ran on the strength of over 2 million individual donors

- Reach across party lines to get legislation passed in Illinois that requires police interrogations and confessions to be videotaped

- Sponsored over 800 bills in the Illinois senate, tackling health care, ethics, poverty, crime, civil rights, the environment, gun control, and immigration

- Beat the shiat out of the Clintons

This is a partial list of his accomplishments.

And KEEP IN MIND: Of his three years in the U.S. Senate, 2 of those were with a Republican majority, whom the Democrats have had to battle with every step of the way to get ANYTHING passed. And the current Republican minority is on pace to set the record for most filibusters in U.S. Senate history!
