So you're saying I can whip out my penis in public?

No, silly. That's why the voting booths have curtains or blinds.

I do seriously wonder how closely Cindy is gonna be watching her husband. She'd better hope she doesn't get in a car accident...

But, let's be honest here: It would almost be worth McCain winning if he somehow managed to fark the VP while in office, and we found out about it. It'd be the farking rapture for our news media. Ye Gods, can you imagine?

OBVIOUS. Women don't like the idea of picking a woman and then treating her like a glorified secretary.

McCain could have picked Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Elizabeth Dole or someone like that, but instead he picked a relative unknown, so he could argue that he's a "Washington outsider."

People don't want an outsider. They want somebody who is extremely competent. For all her issues, Hillary had a masterful knowledge of nearly every policy issue out there. If she didn't know about something, she would work vociferously to learn about it so that she could stand up to the toughest people in the room.

If Palin wants to be a stand-in Hillary, then let's hold her to that standard. Stop seller her short. Demand that she offer in depth policy analysis. Demand that she lay out platforms and be able to out-debate Biden by a mile.

women don't like being told they only wanted to vote for a woman because she was a woman. I wanted Hillary for a lot of political reasons. HIllary believed in things I do that none of the other candidates do and has the record that said she really did believe in those things. This woman doesn't stand for that. She is just a woman. I am not friends with just any woman. I don't like most women. The fact Mccain thought he could just pick any woman and trick all the Hillary supporters was insulting to all of us.

Shrugging Atlas 2008-08-30 04:52:36 PM
Newsflash: Women--like most people--don't like having their intelligence insulted.

I'm still amazed Palin tried to take the baton from Clinton in her speech yesterday with her "American women aren't finished yet" line on the heels of the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling comment. I'm not sure how she could have been more insulting.

"Don't vote for me because of my policies or viewpoints, vote for me because I have a vagina."

nucal 2008-08-30 04:52:45 PM
She's essentially a female Huckabee. Once that message gets across, she's toast for everyone except the fundies.

Republicans don't win elections by pandering to women. They win them by scaring them.

Epic FAIL times eleventy.

Smellvin 2008-08-30 04:55:52 PM
I'd just like to take the time to say that the women don't like her because they are jealous. That's why so many of them liked Hillary; no one would ever have to worry about her husband wanting to bang Mrs. Pantsuit.

Dr.Zom 2008-08-30 04:57:30 PM
nucal: She's essentially a female Huckabee.

That's a good analogy.

markhwt 2008-08-30 04:57:49 PM
Why are we assuming that the only reason McCain picked her was because she is a woman, and he was trying to get the female vote? It probably has to do with the fact that his base isn't too pumped up about him, and he needed to find a conservative to try and win them back.

This x10. I would have been honored by KBH or Olympia Snow . McCain's econ advisor Meg Whitman would have been one heck of a maverick choice and far more qualified IMHO.

This pick wreaks of strategery (gah)

LordJiro 2008-08-30 04:58:59 PM
Wow, women don't like McCain's blatant pandering by picking a female VP? And a fundie with even *less* elected experience than Obama (who's already managed to get caught up in a few scandals), to boot?

SHOCKING!

ace in your face: The fact Mccain thought he could just pick any woman and trick all the Hillary supporters was insulting to all of us.

Well, to be honest, BOTH candidates picked V.P.s merely to pander to the part of the population that they thought they were missing. Still, the country is used to old white guys being V.P., and you can make the case that Binden at least has the political experience to pull it off. Palin, on the other hand, might as well be wearing a wet t-shirt emblazoned with the phrase "I have breasts, vote for me."

Picking Elizabeth Dole would've been interesting. This is the first time since '72 that the Republicans haven't had either a Bush or a Dole on the ticket.

it amazes and scares me that people think she is a good choice for VP, having been a small town mayor and a governor of bum-fark alaska for like 3 weeks.

but then i remember these are republicans and it all makes sense.

I've said this since day 1 (yesterday), that the women would be much more critical of her than the men. Women are always far more critical than men are, especially with attractive women.

markhwt: Why are we assuming that the only reason McCain picked her was because she is a woman, and he was trying to get the female vote?

I wasn't convinced that her gender was the primary motivation for her nomination until she started making references to Hillary Clinton. Up until that point, I figured gender was a motivation (because, let's face it, this is politics), but probably not the primary one. Once she mentioned Hillary Clinton making cracks in the glass ceiling -- a direct reference to Michelle Obama's speech, it was clear that she was saying, "Vote for me, Hillary supporters, because I'm a woman!" She's the one put it out there.

I really hope that Clinton follows the suggestion of another Farker and put out an ad that lays out Palin's pro-Life, pro-creationist positions, then says, "McCain believe that you will vote for her just because she's a woman. How insulting."

*Actually, I believe Palin might be further to the right than Cheney on the issue of creationism in the classroom.

I think Obama should either maneuver for Hillary to take Harry Reid's spot as Senate majority leader, or offer her a cabinet position like head of HHS. The majority leader position would be advantageous, not only because it would put Hillary in a major position of power, but because Harry Reid is pretty mediocre.

The HHS position seems less prestigious, but it would allow Hillary to force Palin into a debate about the issues. Instead of attacking her experience, the Democrats should be forcing her into a policy debate right here, right now. I have no doubt that she's a sharp lady who will have really good debate coaches, but she should be out on the campaign trail talking policy long before then.

Christine Todd Whitman would have been an awesome choice. She's a Republican with cross-party appeal, and she was a governor for seven years. She would have been a much better choice for appealing to Hillary supporters, even though it doesn't make him any gains with uber-conservative (who, let's face it, weren't going to vote for Obama anyway).

Bartink,
That didn't answer my question at all. But at least you put Wow at the end of your sentence, so thats helpful.

Forty-Two,
Thanks, I hadn't heard the speech yet. If that the direction they are taking then I guess that is the main motivation for picking her. If thats all her campaigning is going to be then this is going to be an even more annoying election then I thought.
