Wow. Palin better watch out. She'll certainly show just how far "out of touch" she is with the sushi eating, Bordeaux sipping, Macbook browsing, Whole Foods shopping, black turtle-neck wearing hipster crowd.

There really are people like that or is that the Texas view of everyone north of 80?

Talk about out of touch

No. She better watch out because snowmobile maintenance isn't likely to come up in the VP debates.

All this hand-wringing obsession over "experience" has been one of the worst parts of this election. Though I guess it's just the latest non-issue used to avoid any semblance of meaningful policy debate.

Strange, a few months ago I could have sworn you posted several times about how RP had been in the House for 20 years, and he had a lot of experience "walking the walk" on fiscal policy. "Dr. No" and all that.

But remembering that would prevent you from being so self-righteous and self-satisfied with your "non-conventional" political approach.

I never said anything about Paul's time in the House making him "experienced enough" to be President.

But hey, when you can't think of an actual criticism of what I'm saying, just make shiat up, attribute it to me, and attack that. It gives the impression of engaging in intelligent conversation without the whole messy business of intelligent thought.

Well, ya got me there. Pretty good sounding attack though if you hadn't rebutted it :)

It's fun to play troll sometimes.

That's because they both know they suck on monetary policy and civil liberty protection. These non-issues are much easier to deal with and control. Saying "LOOK AT US! WE'RE THE SAME!" doesn't win elections.

I'm still just so stunned by this choice. I was going Obiden, but I wasn't particularly juiced about it.

I really feel like McCain just spit in the face of the American people. Republicans are patting themselves on the back because they think this gives them a campaign advantage, but it comes at the cost of any concern for the security of the country and the welfare of the American people. All Republicans seem to be interested in is whether this will be a successful tactic, as though the entire election was just a sporting event and the Presidency some prize you win at the end.

This person is not qualified to be president, which is the only real duty the job entails. Any comparison between her and Obama is faulty, because he participated in a primary process and was chosen by 19 million voters. Palin was chosen by one man, over literally dozens of more qualified candidates. Her unfitess is only heightened by McCain's age and health history, which makes it more likely that she will ascend to the presidency than any other VP candidate in history. The idea that he would choose her to succeed him in this event shows a stunning lack of judgement, and nothing but contempt for this country and it's people.

From the article: Sarah Palin once one a competitive eating contest by devouring three live caribou.

I wonder what life experiences would lead someone to the place where he can't tell the difference between "won" and "one".

She really made an impression in college:

Kenton Bird, director of the University of Idaho's School of Journalism and Mass Media, said she didn't write for the independent college newspaper, The Argonaut, and didn't do any work for the university television station KIUI while she was there.

Most of her journalism professors have retired or died, he said. Bird worked at the local newspaper, The Moscow-Pullman Daily News (then called The Idahonian), during Palin's time at the University of Idaho and he doesn't remember her ever freelancing or interning for the paper.

Two of her past journalism professors don't remember her, either.

"I wish I could say that I knew something about her, but I just don't," said Roy Atwood, the former director of the journalism program and the faculty member who signed her application for graduation.

Don Coombs also taught Palin while she was at the University of Idaho, but he doesn't remember her, either.

Her husband appears to be able to fit in with union workers downing beers and eating bar-b-que without wearing those stiff brand new jeans you see candidates and their families wear at these events.

Todd Palin is a veteran oil-field worker and commercial fisherman affectionately dubbed Alaska's "first dude." He's a man who took college courses but does not have a degree, yet can hold his own in sophisticated circles, even hosting a reception for five former Alaska first ladies earlier this month.

A father of five, he's also a four-time winner of the world's longest snowmobile race, billed as the most grueling. It's a sport the 43-year-old lifelong Alaskan is so passionate about that he's continued to compete even after his wife took office in December 2006.

Sarah Palin facts are not made up - they are discovered when playing backwards recordings of her saying "aboot".

That's something that will be very awkward. The republican party is the enemy of unions. She can't exactly capitalize on her husband's union buds without turning off the base big time.

QFT. When you mentioned Republicans thinking about the election as a prize it reminded me of how McCain himself said he wanted the office as a prize. It sickens me that these people want to run the country and don't seem to care about anyone else living here.

Hey, Christine Gregoire is the governor of the State of Washington. Since Washington is next to Canada, Christine Gregoire has excellent foreign policy experience, just like Sarah Palin!

Bellingham is a town just south of the US-Canada border in Washington. That means that the mayor of Bellingham must be a foreign policy guru! Hell, he could probably negotiate a peace treaty between Palestine and Israel.

That's some fine logicatin 'there, Lou.

You mean she's served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee longer than Obama, and visited Iraq as far back as 2006? Somebody better tell the McCain campaign, quick!

Oh, wait, she's done none of those things. Never mind.
