Charging $65k to speak at a public university is outrageous. How many times did John Edwards speak about how "out there today in that other America, there's a young student trying to afford his college tuition..."?

I can't believe I voted for that guy...twice.

That's a pretty standard fee for a college speech by a high-profile politico. I remember when I was in college our Activities Board spent $60k for Al Sharpton. (I didn't go.)

CravenMorehead 2008-08-30 02:39:41 PM
It's not surprising that he charges that much. What's surprising is that people are willing to pay that much. Those are very stupid people.

BKITU [TotalFark] 2008-08-30 03:00:41 PM
Actually, it should be:

1) Be John Edwards.
2) Don't be not John Edwards.
3) Charge yadda yadda...

/Be attractive. Don't be unattractive.

Even Bush will get a similar talking fee. Same with Dick Cheney.

This is what I was going to say. The only people who'll pay this guy are university administrators, who are traditionally a bunch of retards

So how much does scumbag Tom Delay get per speaking engagement?

sarcastrophe 2008-08-30 03:15:20 PM
"In 2006, Edwards was paid a measly $55,000 to speak at UC Davis ... on poverty."

hehehe

ConservativesBlow 2008-08-30 03:17:52 PM
I'm sure Republican speakers do it for free.

culebra 2008-08-30 03:17:56 PM
A scandal involving a has-been political figure? This is relevant to my interests.

In other news, there are people who get paid to whip, spit on and [censored] other folks. Funny world.

Sharpton $60k? Good grief? What GED Perp School did you attend? I keed, I keed!

I think the problem is that his cause that he champions is poverty and there is a scandal around what some of that money has been used for, if you haven't heard.

This $65k will ensure that the beast he has been dating and "the" child do not join the ranks of the poverty.

That's true...60k is really only 150 haircuts for John Edwards.

Well, yeah, what else are you supposed to do when an idiot somehow manages to slip through the cracks and end up wasting your money on bogus research or something? Promotion's really the only way to get 'em out of your hair. Same in private industry, I hear.

safeasmilk 2008-08-30 04:06:47 PM
sounds about right, I rememer they paid rove a similar amount to speak at the university of Iowa only to have it nearly stopped due to protests and such. One of the kennedy's, (can't remember which) wanted a 25,000 up front just to have the honor of him staying in the Iowa city cedar rapids area, the cost of the actual speech was more outrageous, so outrageous that the U of I asked the cedar rapids Dems to help with costs and we told them to Fark off. It's pretty standard really.

/hates public
speakers that charge like that

//hates the university system andcolleges even more

You farking assholes are actually getting so used to using a double standard, you don't even notice, you don't even feel how farking pathetic you are.

No wonder tuition keeps going up. $10k would be a good chuck of money to give a speaker for a speak. In the age of mass media and the internet, what the hell can the speakers really be saying that is new and worth $50k - $175k.

ilambiquated 2008-08-30 04:36:34 PM
Giuliani also made a killing talking about his heroic role in the 9/11 incident.

I also recall that St. Ronald Reagan got $2 million for a single speech even though

1) He was suffering from Alzheimers
2) He didn't speak a word of Japanese.

I bet that went well.

That was before he surrendered the principles of the the American republic by swearing an oath of fealty to the British monarchy.

Knighthood is slavery. Knight is an old word for slave.

The best part is that this guy finalized all the charges and stuff BEFORE he admitted to the affair as said in my school paper thingy (pops), and was trying to increase the payment after-wards (new window). What a jag-off, and I actually was still on his side after the affair thing. All I can say is while it seems like a shame to waste the money, this is one liberal who's not showing up to this speaking engagement.

/Senior there
//My Fighting Illini lost big time to Mizzou today =(
/Could be worse, last semester we had that clown Ben Stein trying to pimp his creationist movie crap. Not sure if anyone went....
