Oh, the financial connections are there. The Saudis are running all the building operations on the oil fields, and Bush's family is heavily invested in the Saudis.

Never has a president used his country for personal financial gain more than George W. Bush. And half this country is ready to elect a man who will do it all over again for himself.

Errr... what? I'm confused as hell. Isn't the Iraqi goverment's ability to make their own decisions on who to trade with and on what terms (even if they aren't terms that are fair or favorable to the US) a pretty big part of that whole "autonomy" and "taking care of themselves" thing that we, you know, want them to do? If they can make a profit on it, and they're happy with the deal, what farking business is it of ours?

VodkaFueledComunnism 2008-08-30 11:27:32 AM
and how many soldiers died? and it made america a better place how? Or protected their families how? Or even made the world a better place or the mid-east more stable? I wish very bad and spiritually crushing things on all those involved. Why don't anti-western terror groups go AFTER saudi arabia since we're so invested in them? I want to see that so badly. A plague upon the houses of all those involved and a prayer that those affected will one day have the strength and courage to come out, speak up and hold the bastards accountable.

It's nice to see the ONLY thing we could have benefited from in this whole war is going to other countries.

While we're wasting countless hundreds of BILLIONS and American lives over there for Iraqi "freedom", other countries are benefiting from it.

Hopefully Bush and his corporate co-horts made a lot of money in the past 8 years. they'll need it to move to another country when we get overrun.

I guess I'm still confused - one of the things which vocal opponents of the war - myself included - always complained about was that Bush and Cheney initiated this war as some for of profiteering, both for their oil industry connections, and for cheap American oil as a whole. Are we now slamming the Iraqi government for denying us the opportunity to do just that? I may well be missing a key detail here, but that seems... inconsistent, at best.

This, I think, is my point, albeit more succinctly spoken. The sooner the Iraqi government stops doing things solely to please us and cut us breaks, the sooner they stop being the puppet regime that has unfortunately festered there in place of a real government.

I understand the sentiment, but if, the taxpayers, hadn't have sunk so much money into this boondoggle, under the false claims that the oil would pay for the war, and then see this cheap oil sold to another country...the whole thing is sickening, but we should expect some kind of return on our money if we're going to spend that much.

I don't see the Iraqi government being slammed here. The people I see being slammed are the right wing apologists who used the "cheap oil" and "control of resources" arguments to defend our invasion and occupation of Iraq.

The Iraqis can sell their oil to whomever they want at whatever price they can get. I'm just annoyed to see yet another, albeit poor, justification for our invasion and occupation exposed as a complete fabrication.

bubbaprog: Oh, the financial connections are there. The Saudis are running all the building operations on the oil fields, and Bush's family is heavily invested in the Saudis.

Don't forget that Halliburton has moved their corporate headquarters to Dubai.

Face it folks, if you supported the war in Iraq you were duped into making a very small group of people an obscene amount of money and you did it at the cost of the lives, limbs and economic security of American citizens.

Just brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

The more I think about this, though, the more I'm torn. I'm not surprised that the Iraqis are making an effort to help out a neighboring Arab state, and since there's a shared border, and a highway connecting the two countries, I'm certain the logistics aren't too difficult to work out.

On the other hand, would it be too much to ask that they sell to some American corporations at a comparable price? Then again, that would cause outrage on the Arab street (I know, what doesn't?), but you could mute a lot of that outrage by having the initial deal be with an Arab nation.

Perhaps this is just the opening move in a larger game. I have zero evidence to back that up, it's completely random speculation on my part.

My grandfather worked at the nursing home his mother lived in. Really great guy. He did try to hit on my grandmother though, kinda weird.

Either way, there's an autographed picture of him in some costume from a western movie sitting in their living room.
