Not at all. Now the cops have pictures of everyone they're going to beat the crap out of starting Monday.

bulok 2008-08-30 11:10:59 AM
They are probably not protesters, just either a mini server convention or guild get together and they didn't want to be taxed for the money they collected so they fronted as some not for profit group.

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-08-30 11:13:56 AM
the rest of it doesn't surprise me, but 4800 copies of WoW?

dillenger69 [TotalFark] 2008-08-30 11:25:03 AM
They didn't find anything. Nice try on the headline, especially the WoW ... I LoLed.

It's interesting that they don't even wait for them to protest before trying to bust them. We can tell which party is in power.

Wow, what a FAIL of a headline. At least have some basis in reality. Some...

Scary is right. I don't think that those protesters are class acts by any stretch of the word but what we have here is the people in power flexing that power to crack down on people literally because those people simply disagree vocally, exercising rights which are supposed to be constitutionally protected. This is, literally, fascism and you, if you support it, anybody, are a fascist.

from what I could tell they were all over at the msnbc area. sometimes they couldn't even talk for them yelling with the bullhorns and their signs. I guess they put msnbc over there in the zone too lol.

I'm pretty sure they have to tell you why they got the warrant and what they're looking for when they serve it.
in Old America they did. This new one I'm not sure what the rules are anymore.

"Law enforcement officers" being authoritarian pigs, breaking the law, and violating people's rights without any threat of punishment?

Color me somewhat less than surprised.

It's the sad truth, but this sort of crap is a matter of routine in America these days. The only reason this is getting any notice at all is because of the political overtones.

Darconix: No one got shot. No one got injured. The police were under the impression this was an "anarchist" HQ, like those pleasant folks who love to break shiat at the WTO meetings. They are charged with a fire code violation, probably for exceeding occupancy limits. The police had a warrant, and were well within the law to execute it, even if it were for a fire code violation. Being an anarchist douchebag "fighting the man" doesn't mean you get special treatment under the law. Violate a fire code, and the police will charge you for breaking the law.

Now get off your knees and wipe your chin off.

Then we can start calling b.s. Until then it is odd that they didn't arrest anyone and just took their pictures for macing references later this week.

Yes, 30 police officers with guns drawn and cameras at the ready is sensible for a fire code violation that a fire marshal and two cops usually enforce even at a crowded bar full of drunks.

\your kool-aid is getting warm

You must never have tried dipping your funyuns in hummus...

I_Love_Verdi: Guns drawn for a fire code violation? That's called doin it wrong.

No, its called American Police Standard Policy:

Arrive at a home suspected of harboring drug dealers, or any private residence that "needs searching"? Break down the door and shoot at anything that moves, disobeys, or looks at you wrong.

90+ year old woman in pajamas - shoot her.
Dogs - shoot them.
Man saying "what do you want?" - shoot him.

The Police State is here, folks. If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear, unless they think you have something to hide, in which case... EVERYBODY PANIC.

Slightly of-topic, how come recently the RNC chooses the most liberal cities for their conventions.

I know cities tend to be more liberal, but this looks like douchbaggery. I don't see democrats going out of their way to set up in Houston or Phoenix.

RNC
2008-Minn-St. Paul, 2004-NYC, 2000-Philly, 1996-San Diego, 1992-Houston

DNC
2008-Denver, 2004-Boston, 2000-LA, 1996-Chicago, 1992-NYC

The hotels must suck in Topeka.

I think they want to go where the cameras and people are. Judging by their East West pattern the RNC should be in Seattle next time around. The DNC looks like it's heading to LA next year... perhaps San Fransisco.

Or it's a conspiracy. Whatever floats your boat.

Enemabag Jones: Slightly of-topic, how come recently the RNC chooses the most liberal cities for their conventions.

They chose New York because of 9-11. The chose Minnesota because they thought at one point they might swing the state.

IMO, they like to choose liberal leaning cities in hopes of protests that they can use to paint all progressives as protesting, dope-smoking, hippy types. They are still fighting Vietnam.

skinkn8r 2008-08-30 02:46:25 PM
Enemabag Jones,

I agree with you on some of the cities in that list...but San Diego? Not by a long shot...We're one of the most conservative cities in California.

Not to mention, this is where Chimpy did his little aircraft carrier stunt... Neocons walking around here with boners for days after that one.

You seem to (think that you) know a lot more than anyone about this.

So where's the warrant to back it up? You seem to have decided guilt based on a total lack of evidence.

Then again, you are one of our top bullshiatters.

The RNC being held in Seattle, I almost want to see that. That is even better than NYC.

And not a conspiracy, just more imagecentric douchebaggery like having a r&b star sing and having the cameras focus in on every cheering non-white business person in the room.

Because they think they can ever expand their appeal beyond the most hateful and ignorant among the electorate. They probably think it is a "clever jab at the heart of liberal America".

As has been noted it is actually pretty dumb. They should have snagged Albuquerque...or Denver first. Denver was a master stroke and will bring Obama Colorado.

It's brilliant for Obama to go to a Republican swing state but it's a dumb idea for the RNC to do the same thing? Your farky color just got a little darker, my friend.

If the Republicans held their convention in Minnesota with a mind to win it, then they are stupid. Minnesota is not a swing state.

Colorado and New Mexico are. Sorry. Color me whatever you like, I'll just look for your screen name and skip it from now on. You've just been elected to the Hall of Douche. Here's your pointed cap.
