I love hearing stories like this. I love it when they take themselves out before hurting some kid or something.

Morans.

Hope that footage gets a lot of views!!11!!

As a side story, a friend of mine up in PA lives on a road known for 'late night' drag racing, both motorcycle and car. He routinely lays wood strips with nails and screws in them on the street, it actually works pretty well. They either come to a screeching halt when they see 'em coming, or he has the pleasure of knowing they're going to be running flat soon enough.

Cops wouldnt' do anything, so it's the next best thing I guess.

Seems a little excessive. The guy got severely hurt and his friend is dead because of his dumb ass actions. The things this guy is going to have to live with for the rest of his life are by far punishment enough. I doubt he'll be doing any more reckless driving.

Kind of like drag racing in the first place.

You can do this? Great! I've got a sling-loaded sound-activated bowling ball catapult system ready for the subwoofer crowd that drive by my place all night long.

As a former resident of rural PA that used to come home at all hours of the night as a teenager and got lots of flat tires, I say fark your friend. I'm a responsible driver and if I'd gotten a flat tire because some other dicks happened to be racing on the road I happened to be on, I'd spend as long as it took finding your friend so I could report him to the police.

Not really. By drag racing you're putting your own life in danger. By doing it on a public side street (not in a rural area there louiedog) you're risking the lives of children or anyone else in the area.

Vigilante style? Sure...but like I mentioned, the cops won't do anything when called. They will continue to do nothing until someone ends up getting killed. It always takes a fatality to change something, no one can ever 'see it coming' for some reason.

Wasn't in a rural area. We're talking side street in the middle of Erie, PA. Lots of accidents waiting to happen...kids running out in the road, cars backing into the road...heck, other cars on the same road. these idiots go FLYING down these back roads, usually blowing through stoplights and everything along the way. As far as I'm concerned (and pretty much everyone that lives on the street was concerned) a flat tire is the least those a-holes deserve.

Nah. This is obviously a case of assisted suicide. Since I am a supporter of a person's right to choose euthanasia, I'd say no charges for the motorcyclist, plus the family of the recipient of the gift of death should reimburse the motorcyclist for this selfless act of love by paying for his gas, medical expenses, and any damages to his bike.

I think you just thought "wouldn't it be awesome if someone laid out nail strips" but you think it would be a better story if you said it as if someone you know actually does it.

But, it's really not... because it just sounds unlikely and implausible and makes "your friend" sound like just as much an irresponsible and reckless dick as anyone who's drag-racing.

Exactly...how do these homemade spike strips tell the difference between street racers and regular drivers? Sounds pretty douchey to me.

If enough people call the cops, eventually they will do something about it.

That really sucks for any law abiding citizens who happen to drive down that street. Are people supposed to call your friend for "permission" before driving to see if he approves of them using the roads at that time?

I could care less about the racers, but an innocent motorcycle rider has a good chance of being seriously injured by a board full of nails across the road at night. So the next time you see your friend, please punch him in the face for me.

If he asks why, just tell him he didn't have my permission to be breathing at that particular time.

Actually, it would pose a serious risk to someone speeding in a car too. Police stop sticks are hollow like needles. This design was adapted after solid "nail type" stop sticks caused several tires to rupture and blow out completely, where a quick and controlled deflation was the original intent.

Early stop sticks, like idiotlover's friend, risked a driver losing control when one or more tires blew out... something that is avoided with modern stop sticks.
