Ron Paul is the only candidate that addresses all important issues which are destroying America as we know it. Illegal immigration, unconstitutional war with Iraq, big brother government etc.etc. McCain and Obama are politics as usual candidates. You complacent Americans will get what you deserve when u elect one of those sheisters.

There is a spectrum of suckage. Just because Ron Paul sucks less than everyone else doesn't mean everyone else completely sucks.

I voted 3rd party the last two elections. And, obviously, I've regretted it. I'm all for other selections, but it doesn't start at the highest level. Bring up the Libertarian Party from the bottom. Make sure people run for any and all offices they can. Think small. Now, a vote for Ron Paul is a wasted vote.
But you know this.

I'm not sure about some aspects of Ron Paul's domestic policy ideas, but his ideas on foreign policy are better than the two major party candidates are putting forward.

Withdraw every US soldier stationed outside the US; pull out of NATO and the UN; cancel NAFTA and scrap any upcoming free trade deals? Yeah, that's the way to thrive in a modern, globalized world.

Just imagine that we had a three party system...
Candidate "A" gets 30% of the votes.
Candidate "B" gets 30% of the votes.
Candidate "C" gets 40% of the votes...

We get a president that 2/3 of the electorate didn't want.

By that definition, any vote for a losing candidate, and any vote for a winning candidate above the number necessary to elect him or her, is a wasted vote.

If your vote isn't the deciding vote in an election, it's better to pick the person you want.

And on a side note, if any Republican or Democratic politician mumbles something about voter reform without bothering to mention Condorcet, Approval, Range, or some form of proxy voting, they are either liars or morons.

Since Ron Paul wants to drastically reduce the size of the federal government, what does he intend to do with all of the government workers that lose their jobs? People can't find good jobs that pay a middle class salary with benefits now. If there is one good thing about inefficient, large government bureaucracies is that they employ a lot of people getting middle class salaries with health insurance. I have never heard a Ron Paul supporter explain a solution to this.

Rusty_shack 2008-08-30 11:33:39 AM
So do we think the Ron Paul supporters will get as much airtime as the ~50 or so PUMAs at the DNC?

That's an idea: run-off election!

First round - anyone who can come up with ?? number of signatures.
Second round - top 10.
Third round - top 5
Final round - top 2 = hand to hand cage fight.

notq: It's hilarious how easily Ron Paul people changed over to Bob Barr, who is at least twice as disgusting as Ron Paul.

This is demonstrably false. Bob Barr can't even raise $1,000,000.

MikeVx 2008-08-30 11:38:34 AM
As in the last several elections, most of the votes are wasted, the only non-wasted votes are for the 3rd parties. Neither of the big parties is going to put forward anyone who belongs in the dog catchers office, let alone president. If you plan to vote for one of the big two, do the rest of us a favor and don't vote.

Voting for either of the big two is saying that you are happy with the way things are and you don't want substantial change. I can guarantee that the only changes will be for the worse, choosing between Frick and Frack only has a minor influence on the precise path that the deterioration continues down.

Because small business thrives off of high taxes that are handed to asshats who accomplish nothing besides wasting even more of that tax money? Big government has a detrimental effect to business. It's just another form of welfare.

There are a lot of people here who agree with Jim down at the Circle K (you have to say that with emphasis on circle). Anyway, Jim says we need to round up all the Mescins, bomb all the whole middle-east, and 'turn off the damn welfar. Just turn it off.'

Amazingly, even these farkwits know it would be a wasted vote to vote for Jim down at the Circle K.

It's even worse than that. Let's use Biden, Clinton, and Obama with your numbers as an example.

For every 100 votes, you might have

30: Biden>Clinton>Obama
30: Clinton>Biden>Obama
40: Obama>Biden>Clinton

The pairwise comparison for this is

60:40, Biden>Obama
70:30, Biden>Clinton
60:40, Clinton>Obama

Any reasonable voting system would have Biden first, Clinton second, and Obama third. Instead, Plurality selects the Condorcet loser as the winning candidate -- the least liked candidate wins.

It gets even more ridiculous with more candidates, which is why we have our retarded two party system. With a Condorcet method, you'd tend to elect centrist candidates, and you could get rid of the stupid waste of time and money known as "primaries."

/as a side note, I prefer Obama to Biden and Clinton, I was just using it as an example.

Vanetia [TotalFark] 2008-08-30 11:48:42 AM
The only wasted vote is the one cast for a person you don't even really want in office. In that case, you're not even voting for what you want, so why are you voting at all?

Oh, right, because you hate the other guy more.

Team politics is so horribly saddening.
