Part of me wants to say "good job federal government for getting it right this time, and being proactive.".

The other part says "would they be on top of the ball if this wasn't an election year?"

I was pretty close to the 2pm Tuesday marker, but already high-tailing-it out. Not waiting; no work now anyway because the gulf rigs are shutting down, so why stick around for the evacucarnage.

There is no God, but he sure has a sense of humor and irony.

Of course I hope no one dies as a result of this storm and that property damage in minimal but you have to wonder what those conservative douche bags are thinking after praying for rain in Denver and now this happens. Oops.

osnap [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-08-29 10:15:22 PM
I guess it could be expected post-Katrina, but I really think we are reacting too much too soon to hurricanes these days. The national Guard is in full force in New Orleans and the storm isn't even to Cuba yet. And maybe a Florida farker can help me out with this... since when does Florida declare state of emergency for a tropical storm? Seems like they used to call for readiness for tropical storms, almost like they used to breath a sigh of relief if it was only a T.S.

I'm not saying we shouldn't be ready for hurricanes... I just think that we're really over-reacting way ahead of time.

If we keep this shiat up, people will not evacuate when they actually really should.

We here in Houston haven't been hit by a major hurricane since Alicia in '83. We're due for a storm to come in clean out our less-than-sturdy structures.

Which of the above listed communities are below sea level, surrounded by levees with outdated pumping systems, and leeching money to rebuild where they logically shouldn't?

It's not Internet Tough Guy syndrome, it's common farking sense. Plus, don't you have to go give a concert and then suck off Peyton Manning afterwards, Mr. Chesney?

What bizarro world do you live in where the murder rate in New Orleans is ridiculously low?

I'd like to visit that parallel dimension, maybe move there.

If you don't count the people who get murdered. The murder rate is really quite low.

If you compare the amount of deaths from Katrina to how many murders happened at the same time in NOLA the murder rate is quite low.

Sweet, I should work for the news or something.

It was ridiculously low when they had National Guard stationed there. Since they've been trying to regain their "chocolate city" status, not so much. Bus them out, crime goes down. Bus them back in, there it is again. I think New Orleans needs another direct hit, personally... Like the fist of an angry god that leaves the French Quarter and Garden District alone..

COME ON GUSTAV!

Ahh I do love me some compassionate conservatism. Come on killer, tell us what you're really thinking.

This thing has the potential to get HUGE.
