His "scourge" status is brought on by sheer stupidity, negligence, and disregard for intellectual property.

I don't condone anyone stealing music, but he's the one running for President.

And, he voted for the DMCA, so this is really funny.

Etchy333: And, he voted for the DMCA, so this is really funny.

I'm not a big fan of the "OMFG Hypocrite !!" campaign as a means of attacking the opponent, but it is funny that it has to be explained over and over to the people who live in that world 24x7.

Roook [TotalFark] 2008-08-29 06:35:03 PM

You people always making fun of McCain being tortured in a POW camp know you are just as bad as these assholes right?

They said it was fair game because Kerry made it part of his campaign too. I thought it was shiatty then and I think it's shiatty now.

Lenkyl [TotalFark] 2008-08-29 07:01:28 PM
i laughed so hard when they started playing "right now". my laughter doubled when they yanked the audio just before "only missed by a fraction" but after "miss a beat, lose the rhythm and nothing falls into place"

comedy gold

We're making fun of the fact that it's his campaign's answer to any and all criticism, regardless of context.

Be fair though, it's hard to think of different answers to every question while you're being tortured in a POW camp.

You know what, I've never heard of a veteran using the fact that he got a purple heart as the excuse for why he cheated on his wife. Nor have I ever heard a purple heart recipient use it as an excuse as to why he doesn't know how many houses he owns. Or use the purple heart as a way to get out of any criticism.

He is personally taking his own POW status, and taking a massive dump on the honor conferred by it, and in turn taking a massive dump over the honor of all the other former POWs living in the USA. He has turned something very serious and weighty into a farking joke.

"My friends, noun, verb, POW"

I must have missed the part of the Kerry campaign where he used his purple heart as an excuse for any moral failing he had, can you please tell me when he used it in that way? It should be so easy for you since you are so huffy over it.

Perhaps when McCain can stop using it as his fallback for ANY criticism, people will let it drop.

I have nothing but respect for the man's service, but there is a point where you need to give it a rest. Let his actions speak louder than words. He cheapens his service by using it as an excuse. And that is all he is doing.

And it is registering with the VA crowd who is none too happy with his voting record, considering his experiences and service...

No, what's shiatty is the fact that McCain camp answers every question with the "POW" mantra. Kinda like how Gulliani answered everything with a 911 reference.

He was a POW, we get it. But him being a POW doesn't automatically qualify him to be the President, now does it?

McCain sides with Bush on 90% of everything -- do we really need a 3rd Bush term?

McCain's tries to connect with the average voter, yet he claims someone making more then $5 million qualifies as rich...

Kerry never once used "I have a Purple Heart" as an excuse to not answer a question or as an explanation for a past indiscretion. If anything, he tried to downplay his military medals as much as possible.

How should one go about pointing out McCain's absurd use of being a POW?

Senator McCain is just going with the old proverb: Tis easier to ask forgiveness than permission. He knows most entertainers lean to the left, he knows he probably won't get permission to use songs he wants, so hey, steal em and settle up later.

Good strategy for an asshat.

The best way to deal with bullshiat is to ridicule it. This is what happens to McCain, and it's what's happening to you in this thread.

I once scored with a sweet young college instructor using that song. I owe every bit of ass I got from her to Dave, Eddie, Mike and Alex.

Eddie walking down the library table while he plays it makes the video.

Oh my gosh, give me a break. I am no McCain fan, but my goodness, recording artists put their work up for sale, for anyone to buy, use and maybe even use at a public gathering. There is a big difference between just using the music and claiming "band X" endorses candidate Y.

How many fraternity parties has this song, or any other been played at? If the TKE chapter at Acme University held a party at Acme University, would a reasonable person "think" Van Halen endorses TKE? Music is a part of our everyday life, people obviously enjoy music, but a certain song played over the intercom does not equal support for a particular cause.

He tried downplaying his medals when the Republican's started attacking them and the stuff about him throwing his medals vs ribbons vs it was just a scratch crap. He changed tactics after the race turned into making fun of him and his military experience at every turn.

I'd give the McCain staff 2 weeks before they state they ever used the Van Halen song.
This campaign has never run any ad using any portion of Mr. Browne's song. If the complaint names the McCain campaign, Mr. Browne and his lawyers have picked the wrong target, and John McCain's name should obviously be removed from this lawsuit immediately.
