Should Obama be true to his word about this kind of petty stuff (not that the content of what they said is trivial, just that you should give a newly-minted VP candidate her due reward for her accomplishment and at least a few hours before hitting her on her record), I can't imagine how hard it is to rein in a campaign staff that has spent decades thinking this way.

\Maybe he's playing both sides
\\Hopefully not

Larry Mahnken [TotalFark] 2008-08-29 07:17:11 PM
The way Obama really should be approaching this is not to mock her lack of experience after McCain railed on Obama's experience, but rather to say that her lack of experience doesn't matter if her judgment and knowledge of national and world issues is strong.

And then destroy her for having no knowledge of national or world issues.

Hang On Voltaire [TotalFark] 2008-08-29 07:17:12 PM

He should say that she sounds like a great person but it shows the GOP is all about winning and has no ideas. After attacking Obama for months about a lack of experience, nominating an woman with even less applicable experience shows they really never meant any of it. And have some of his more negative surrogates say this is an insulting play for Hillary voters.

That's the way to play it.

McCain just proved that he doesn't mean anything he says and that winning is more important to him than anything else. That should be the narrative Obama pushes. It's also the truth.

I think Palin is a great girl, but I don't want someone that young and probably idealistic in a position where she could really push for anti-abortion. Most Republicans just want to play their base, but she might actually work for it and that isn't good for anyone.

Hang On Voltaire: Give me a break. Does he honestly think anyone falls for this good cop/bad cop shiat?

Worked for McCain. He just forgot he was supposed to stay "good cop." Now the Republican campaign is like "crazy racist cop" and "confused grumpy cop."

He may as well stick to what he's good at...

"So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

To be fair, how is this any different than when McCain says something contradictory, and his camp responses that his remarks are not the McCain platform?

I mean, clearly it is a little good cop/bad cop, but at least in this direction the implication is that the nominee is in the right, not the staff.

Obama won't attack her character, that'll bring sympathy to her. However, the females Democrats definitely will.

There are rumours circulating on the interwebs that Palin's 16-year-old daughter is pregnant. Moreover, they are saying that Palin's down's baby may, in fact, not be hers but her daughter's.

Yoikes.

If Biden doesn't have some kind of olden days chivalry problems, he's going to murder her in the debates. It's not even going to be funny.

We could end up with a Harriet Meyers president, do you want that?

The problem with that is they'd just send her on a vacation around the world for a week or so to meet with some world leaders and pose for photo ops. Then she'd match Obama's foreign policy experience.

And then destroy her for having no knowledge of national or world issues.

Let's see... the Republican VP pick has no knowedge of "national or world issues"... and the Democrats' pick for *President* has no understanding of "national or world issues", much less economics, history, basic civics, etc.

I don't think the Democrats should try attacking her on anything if they don't want it to turn back on them.

Exactly! Which is why McCain picked Palin for her experience!

I thought the choice was good from a debate perspective. Biden would have taken apart anyone McCain picked but if he does it to her it will look like the big scary man is picking on the young women.

Obama should say nothing. He should go home and photoshop Palin's head on Luba's (nsfw new window)) body and post it all over the intertubes. Once the stories of Palin's nude photo shoot is out then compliment McCain on his taste in women.

That's why the Obamamaniacs are so happy. It takes the experience card right out of the game. And in fact, brings that attack to him! Obama doesn't have to do it himself, look at all the forums, blogs, threads, sites, etc, they're all tearing her down already.

LocalCynic 2008-08-29 07:32:50 PM

I disagree. Sarah Palin, as a governor with so much experience, is probably exceedingly knowledgeable about the world. I think the bar needs to be set extremely high. If she doesn't crush him, it's a loss for her.

The comment the compaign made was supposed to be a simple canned response until a more detailed response could be drafted.

This IS a case of the staffer opening their mouth and saying something stpuid that gave a counter message to the speech the previous night. And, honestly, it was exactly what the republicans were counting on.

Obama facepalms.
