McCain is so brilliantly distancing himself from George W. Bush by selecting an inexperienced pro-drilling governor from an oil rich state with zero foreign policy credentials. Bush and Palin have practically NOTHING in common!

Obama, with only 8 years as a State Senator and only 3 and a half years as a US Senator has some legitimate problems surrounding his experience.

But, in fairness to Obama, he fought for almost two years to win the nomination and did so because he out manouvered his opponent brilliantly.

Palin, has very very little experience, arguably less than Obama, but this is compounded by the fact that she hasn't proved her mettle by winning anything. I mean, fark, she only MET John McCain once.

That being said, it doesn't really matter that much. McCain is hoping that by picking a young, attractive, smart, and successful woman like Palin, he will get enough women to vote with their gut and switch their vote much the way Obama imapcted black voters during the primary.

Now, having said THAT, there's something else to consider here. Obama is going to get a solid bounce from the convention. If, after a week or two, McCain hasn't made any solid inroads into that lead, she will be blamed and become the Harriet Meirs of VP choices.

moralpanic: OFMG, can you imagine Putin and Palin meeting? Putin would chew her alive.

Putinw would chew everyone alive. Even Obama. He could kill Palin with a stare.

And McCain? Heh, sick old man versus fit, younger sociopath with a better grasp of realpolitick? He wouldn't stand a chance either. Obama would be better off.

Okay, this "arguably" shiat has to go. She has MUCH less experience than Obama, and there's no getting around that. I don't care which bumfark state she's been the governor of for less than two years, and which blink-and-you'll-miss-it town she was mayor of before that.

But you're spot-on with that last comment. More evidence that this pick is just a "Fark you, I wantz the women vote" pick.

The Obama campaign oughta be running that as often as McCain is running Biden's criticism of Obama during the primaries. If not more often. They've gotta start playing up the fact that numerous Republicans have praised Obama's ideas, yet still push in the other direction.

And the vaunted "HAWTEST VP!!11!" award from the GOP faithful. "She's easy on the eyes" equals half a point for McCain.

Time to find a way to harness the electricity generated by the spinning remains of the Founding Fathers.

I'm sure they will. McCain is actually outspending Obama right now, even though Obama is bringing in far more cash. Kerry lost last election largely due to running out of funds. He had to pull ads out of critical states near the end (and couldn't counter the Swiftboaters). I'm thinking Obama will do a 50 state media blitz once the conventions are over and the debates start.

It's not even about pleasantries, necessarily. It's just that "arguably" sounds like more equivocating from GOPers who don't want to come out and admit that their candidate might as well have picked my mother as his running mate, because that destroys nearly their only good card against Obama.

"Um...she has leadership experience! She was a chaperone on my third-grade field trip! And now she's LEADING the charge by sending out emails about Obama being the antiChrist! Obama has only been in the Senate for a few years! So that's like the same thing!"

15.5 thousands web pages already of people making that comparison and it's only been one day

You're probably right. I just read that McCain was beginning to put significant resources into traditionally strong GOP states. If Obama's rolling in cash, he might as well make McCain spend even more money in Kansas and Alabama etc etc.

I for one an anticipating much tasty popcorn watching the right wing try to spin Palin as experienced and capable while at the same time attacking Obama for inexperience. The mental and semantic gymnastics combined with the intellectual dishonesty and double standards could very well create a small black hole epicentered at the Fox News home studio.

To be fair, Obama's views are pretty much in line with the views of most black voters (generally speaking). McCain is betting on women switching over to him based solely on the fact that his VP is a woman. She's solidly conservative on most issues, especially abortion rights.

I understand that McCain felt he had to pick a woman, but there was no one else in the GOP that he could of picked?

How about Kay Bailey Hutchison? She would of seemed like a very good choice.

She's gonna be VP, a largely ceremonial position with a minuscule chance of becoming more. She had 5 years in elected office before Obama ever ran for one. She is responsible for a state budget and the Alaska Nation Guard.

Obama is trying to be President, and all he has to point to is being a "community organizer" and a politician who has never run a government organization of ANY size, for ANY period of time.

There's no spin necessary.

It IS funny though, watching 3 back to back to back threads on Fark trying to discredit her. Shows how desperate you Dems have now become, even the Fark mods are scared.
