You should hear my mom go on about Palin.

And she's a dyed in the wool Republican.

Also all my aunts and uncles - way past belittling and into denouncing (Republicans all - very conservative, though).

major-kong [TotalFark] 2008-08-29 03:31:26 PM
If she's not prepared for the "belittlement," it strikes me she shoulda stayed on the tard-farm. Hell, McCain probably benefits, since everyone will be busting on Palin so much they'll forget he's a senile Bush-clone flip-flopper with anger management issues, a smoldering prostate, and a moral compass which points straght at Charlie Keating.

FireBreathingLiberal [TotalFark] 2008-08-29 03:39:43 PM
Where's the belittling? She is anti choice, she is a religious fundamentalist, she is in bed with big oil, she is an NRA member she does walk in lock-step with the right wing.

Though I'm guessing the debates are going to fun as hell to watch.

Joe Biden vs. Sarah Palin is going to be akin to those 30-second wrestling matches we used to get on TV in the 1980s: a Superstar vs. a Jobber.

It WILL be fun to watch. I'm laying even money on Palin crying by the end.

Yes, but but Obama and Ayers!!!!

I thought it was funny that Palin mentioned John Glenn in her acceptance speech. Another Keating 5 member...

Watch
is the operative word. My ears were bleeding by the third line of her speech.

Was she doing a Jerry Lewis imitation or is that the tone of her voice?

Then the spin will be that Joe Biden is a big meanie beating up on a poor defenseless woman. Mark my effing words. Remember John Roberts' wife crying because those nasty Senators were asking him questions and being mean to him? Remember all the unnecessary attention that got? Mark my words, they're prepared to play it that way for her as well.

I disagree, I think they were desperately looking for someone, anyone who didn't have much Bush smell on them. So, inevitably, they had to pick someone relatively new to the political world. Palin's had a fast career, moving from being a relatively unknown mayor to governor in only a few years. Plus, this makes them look like they care about the female vote. There were certainly worse choices than her. Lieberman, for instance, would have been worse.

That's a stunning endorsement right there.

Hey at least he didn't pick Ronald McDonald or Grimace. And Charles Manson? McCain had the vision and leadership not to pick him.

I see your point, but it's a bit different in this case, I think. Roberts' wife was playing the dutiful spouse brought to tears by the perceived unfair treatment of her husband. Of course that's going to get sympathy.

Biden will most likely be attacking Palin on the issues in a forum where Palin has chosen to be in the hopes of becoming the number 2 person in the country. Now maybe if her husband starts blubbering like a baby...

Again, I don't know too much about this woman, but my guess is Biden will chew her up and spit her out and if she cries, she's just going to look like a weak choice to the GOP and it's supporters. Could be wrong though...

So, she's the first woman for VP on the GOP ticket.

Well if that's how we're going to define history, let me be the first white male in all of history to utter the phrase.

"The baby claptrap Governator refaltrad golf clap flibertigibbet."

People just asked why it was historic -- it's historic because she's the first non-white, non-male to be on a GOP ticket.

... and if we are talking about historic moves made by the GOP, they had the first black secretary of state (Colin Powell), first black female secretary of state (Rice), and first Hispanic Attorney General.

She has English, Irish, and German ancestry.

Yeah I dunno what I did there. I meant to say the GOP has only had 1) White 2) Men on their tickets. This is historic because it knocks one of those two down.

I was thinking in my head "only had white males" and that came out. Either way, that's why it is a "historic" pick.

Folks, the only thing non "male" about her is her lack of a Y chromosome.

She's a neocon fundy Godbotherer who really doesn't like women too much, and thinks they should be squeezing out unwanted babies.

She's in bed with Big Oil so much that her bedside Anal-Lube pump probably smells like North Sea Crude.

To her credit, she understands the 2nd Amendment and she's hot. Probably won't be enough.

Hibno 2008-08-29 05:25:41 PM
A black man who worked his way out of obscurity and campaigned for over a year on mostly with grass roots support to beat an established and well-known candidate and get his party's nomination for president = historic.

The second woman to be picked for VP so she could be a foil to the historical nature of Obama's candidacy, and attract bitter Clinton supporters = not as historic.
