"The rhythm is gonna get you, the rhythm is gonna get you , the rhythm..the rhythm...hold on a minute, I have to take a crap out of my enormous ass and eat some ribbon candy. But the rhythm will get you, just hold your horses. "

20 years ago this month I moved from my small hometown into a college dormitory. My roommate owned two cassettes, which he played on an auto-reverse boombox over and over and over again. One was Elton John's Live in Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The other was the debut Miami Sound Machine album.

He seemed surprised when I asked if he was gay.

Live in Australia has that 'Tonight' song. That song is a work of art. If that means I'm gay, then bring on the all-male revue.

/no, not really

In what universe is less of her touring "sad"?

I saw her in Atlantic city a couple of years ago, and I have to say it was an awesome show. I'm a little biased because I know some of the band and crew, but it was definitely rockin' (or latinin' as it were). Fans ranged in age from young kids to old farts like me, and they all knew the words to songs. I'd class it in the top 10 concerts I've been to. Yeah, she's older than she once was and has been through a heck of an injury- but I think she still has what it takes to give a crowd their money's worth.

One of the cooler segments was when she played a tape she had made as a little girl for her father who was a soldier in Vietnam at the time. Apparently, she would record these on a little tape recorder and then send them to him so he it would remind him of home. While the tape played, she played along on a guitar and harmonized with her earlier self. I'm not exactly a big softie, but I had a little something in my eye. Some dust or something. Little sniffles too, maybe allergies... Anyway, it was very sweet.

Can there be a less inspiring, more tepid, least talented piece of sad evidence that some people will buy anything that is shoved in their mouths (or ears) if it's packaged the right way.

Fat white suburbanite slobs feeling all illuminated and wordly as they listen to the Rythym Is Gonna Get You at their 4th of July BBQ's. And impress their friends with that crazy Latin beat.

Shiny bags of shiat for sale...Get one before your neighbour.

Don't worry about it. I was pretty damn stunned too.

She's slowing down because she's 50? I'm stunned! More to come after my nap.
