Took a while, but very good subby

Even by the extremely low standards of popular music, how is that Kid Rock has managed to hang on to his career?

it may be frustrating to find out that Kid Rock is stomping all over your test of time

The fact that he has teamed up with some big names helps. A couple of duet's with popular groups/singers, some remakes, etc. Also the fact that his music runs a close parallel to some of the "classic rock" helps, just add some new modern twists.

I'm sure you got some 80's you need to go listen to or something, so you should probably get on that...

His Zevon/Sweet Home Alabama mash up is the worst piece of crap I've heard for quite a while. The whole appeal of the song is based on the popularity of two other songs. It's even explicitly stated in the lyrics: "...played 'Sweet Home Alabama' all summer long." Well, I'll listen to "Sweet Home Alabama" instead, thanks.

Kid Rock is a talented dude, but he's been wasting it for years. At least he's making a load of cash, I guess.

So very much THIS.

That song is an abortion. To listen to it is to bear witness to the most saddening spectacle: Kid Cock actively farking the corpse of Warren Zevon in the dirtstar, then dismounting, doing a back-double twist/half gainer, and landing cock-first directly the mud-eye of Ronnie Van Zandt's decaying body, all without ever breaking a sweat, or his thrust pattern. And he's smiling the whole time. The Aristocrats.

I'm totally serious when I say that I feel as though he out to be publicly put to death for this.

/plus he stole the title from a beach boys song AAARGH

I do believe you've nailed it. I was really mad the first time I thought Zevon was coming on and it turned out to be that piece of crap. It was as bad as the early 90s when I was getting psyched up for some Queen and Bowie and instead got Vanilla Ice dumped on me.

I just went to Youtube to check out what you guys are talking about. I can't get too jazzed about a song that lifts a riff from another tune, as he does with "Werewolves" on this, or as Vanilla Ice did with Queen/Bowie. I kind of like when bands can take a well-known riff and build it into something different, and, worst-case scenario, lifting the riff for a crappier song just reminds people how good the original is.

My problem with Kid Rock's song is simpler than that -- the lyrics (and the delivery for God's sake) are just so friggin' lazy. Rhyming "things" with "things" in the first line of the chorus? "We didn't have the internet, but I never will forget ..."? If you're going to save some time on coming up with a melody, at least spend that time writing some words that make the song worth listening to. Otherwise, just give me your instrumental remix of "Werewolves" and let me be.

from TFA:
The Big News: The Jonas Brothers held onto first place for the second straight week despite a 72% sales decline, selling an additional 146,000 copies of A Little Bit Longer. But the biggest news was the continued renaissance of Kid Rock's Rock N Roll Jesus, with the year-old album moving from three last week to two thanks to another 100K copies sold. A pair of debuts and a film soundtrack rounded out the top five, with Staind's Illusion of Progress and Ice Cube's Raw Footage at three and five sandwiching the Mamma Mia soundtrack at four.

THAT'S IT.
ROCK MUSIC IS OFFICIALLY DEAD.

/chart wise anyway.

It's not dead, it just went home.

You know Marilyn Mason tried to tell us rock was dead on one of his albums, but all the Christwarriors were too busy telling us how shocking he was and selling records for him.

/Just saying.
//Rock, it's deader than dead.
///Shock, it's all in your head.

I am a HUGE Kid Rock fan. Its great to hear about his continued success after such a long career. I will be blasting the Cocky album this weekend at some point for sure.

The Jonas Brothers are obviously 3 of the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse. I bet they each have a 6 tattooed somewhere on their body. They really are the most pathetic poofball twinks I've ever seen. It's like Nsync and Backstreet Boys had a kid and gave it a sex change.

That pretty much describes the history of rap and hip hop, too.

When you loop sampled hooks of hit songs, that sells.

danduran 2008-08-27 11:09:16 PM
I've never heard this song you all are talking about, and by the sounds of it I don't want to.

Isn't Kid Rock this generation's Ted Nugent, or something?

danduran: Isn't Kid Rock this generation's Ted Nugent, or something?

I don't like Ted Nugent and even i can argue that Ted didn't deserve that.

but yet, why is Kid rock still around? As fickle as pop music is, shouldn't he have his own Behind the Music special by now?

That about covers it.

He's also been seen coming out of real musician's dressing rooms and tour buses wearing his special "Let's Do A Duet!" kneepads.

Look, if Kid Rock paid the proper liscences to the Zevon &
Van Zandt estates, I don't have much of a problem with ALL
SUMMER LONG being unoriginal (Dexy's Midnight Runners did an
even more obvious rip on WEREWOLVES OF LONDON with the song
IT ALL SOUNDED THE SAME back in the 80's without getting the
clearances).

It is a shame, though, that he's wasting his talents on trash
like this.

this statement implies he has talent. The only real discernible talent I can think Kid Rock has is the ability to appeal to the lowest-common denominator who apparently has no actual taste in music, just music to drink a beer to.

Yeah well, ok...beer drinkers need music too.
Yeah, well hey...beer drinkers need music too.
