Kid ROC will never, ever, EVER be a hero.

bales [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:14:45 AM
that's because that is all he is - an entertainer. artists have a different bag.

50mm [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:15:58 AM
Perhaps they should also not offer their opinions on entertainers offering their opinions.

KIA 2008-08-27 11:16:23 AM
Well, that would be his... his... his what? Oh, right. Opinion.

I say he shoud STFU. No, wait, I feel that he should STFU. That makes it not an opinion, right?

/ so say we all.

tgregory 2008-08-27 11:18:15 AM
but aside from simply holding concerts to "cure AIDS" or simply saying negative things about our president - have bruce springstein, the dixie chicks, bono, etc... really given an opinion on politics?

"attend my concert to cure aids and oh, by the way...bush is a douche"

if that's a political opinion...then....i feel sorry for them.

Gwendolyn [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:18:40 AM
Everyone is entitled to their political opinion, even signers, actors, and garbageman. Just because they have more money and influence than most people doens't mean they stop having them.

they do occasionally write songs, and occasionally they convey their opinions through them. occasionally.

Right on, Gwendolyn!

burndtdan 2008-08-27 11:20:20 AM
so when is he going to start doing the entertaining?

Big words from someone who desecrates flags during his performances:

This bumps my opinion of kid rock up a bit. It's still very low, but not quite as low.

I_C_Weener [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:31:41 AM
So, Kid Rock fails at both. His failure is now complete.

BobtheFascist 2008-08-27 11:32:04 AM
Having an opinion is one thing. Imposing it from a bully pulpit to an audience that is only there to see you perform is another. It needs to be appropriate to the time, place & venue.

It's quite simple. If you're playing to a crowd at a benefit or a protest you can scream & holler all you want. It's expected. Afterall, you're there to rally support for a cause.

On the other hand, if you're touring to promote your new album or movie, STFU & stick to the program.

i can't believe i agree with Kid Rock....

i feel dirty...

I love it. Kid Rock again says something farkers agree with and all the haters show up and allow their brains to explode.

Kid Rock == Hero

HansensDisease [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:33:55 AM
Gosh. Why am I not surprised that a man who performed for the 2004 GOP convention is against free speech?

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:37:58 AM
Read it and weep, Dixie Chicks. Shove it Bruce Springsteen. Put a sock in it Johnny Cougar Mellencamp.

This "writer" seems to hold a particular hatred for artists with a history of telling Republicans to stop using their music at rallies.

DamnYankees [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:38:44 AM
Why aren't celebrities allowed to have political opinions?

i don't agree. if there's an entertainer who also wants to speak his mind politically on stage, and you don't want to hear him do it, don't go see him live.

if you want a canned performance, buy the album. no matter how many times you listen to it, it won't change.

Etchy333 [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:43:33 AM
But Kid Rock is right, Hollywood types need to shut the fark up when it comes to politics. There's this one actor, who has a bunch of TV and film credits including an episode of "24" and the comedy "Wedding Crashers", and he seems to always be offering up his political opinion. Go back to Hollyweird, you elitist!

Here's his IMDB page (new window)

Rev.K [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:43:36 AM
Well clearly Kid Rock is the authority on the matter.

Wouldn't that be up to the people paying to see the show? I would imagine if it was so unacceptable, people wouldn't show up after an entertainer does it the first time, right?

However, every John Q. Choad should have full license to fire up the butttrumpet and bloviate about politics, especially when they have taken the time to register a blog in order to rehash redundant chestnuts they have mined from the front lines of political discourse - People Magazine.

i said that.

I ran your comment through the "Moranese-English" Babelfish translator. I came up with the following result:

"HURRRRR HUR HUR HURRRRRR. Also, allow me to state HURRRRRRRR...HURRRRRRRR."

To which I simply say, I disagree.

jake_lex [TotalFark] 2008-08-27 11:54:14 AM
I'd have taken the whole "Entertainers shouldn't be political!" argument more seriously if so many of those people who were burning Dixie Chicks albums weren't requesting that Toby Keith "Boot in their ass" song at the same time.

I misread this at first glance-- I thought that you were directly quoting from People magazine, and I was amazed for a second to think that People used the phrase "John Q. Choad."

Thanks for inadvertently blowing my mind.

they aren't since they learned he's a democrat and supports obama.

I suppose. I stopped going to see Mellencamp for the same reason. It's too bad, too. He puts on a great show. But as I said, I expect it at a Farm Aid show. Not when I drop $50 to see him support his latest album.

I think all citizens should keep their opinions to themselves and let the politicians do their jobs. That's what Democracy and Free Speech are all about.

Third Day Mark 2008-08-27 12:16:49 PM
Leave it to Kid Rock to nail it on the head.

Fart_Machine 2008-08-27 12:17:00 PM

Can the "conservatives" just be f*cking honest one time ? Admit you just don't want to f*cking hear anything that doesn't praise YOUR party only. You sniveling little pussies.

Trefusius 2008-08-27 12:18:23 PM
Quite right. What the hell are the likes of Reagan and Schwarzenegger doing talking about politics. Those films about killer robots aren't going to make themselves!

I will need to explore his collective works, thought he was the Waffle House spokesman.

Kid Rock is great. It's fun music to drink to in the summer. Bonus points for Joe C. dead midget action.

What outspoken musician or actor has earned that title?

Agreed. Half of these people didn't even finish high school.

dothemath 2008-08-27 12:20:24 PM
Thats funny, he said that he is good at writing songs and singing.
Jesus, I dont want to know what he is bad at.

I cant confirm this for certain but I seem to remember KR being affiliated in some way with GWB at some political function. Can anyone confirm?

Im not talking about USO tours, I have no problem with that.

DarnoKonrad 2008-08-27 12:20:25 PM
Like I give a damn about Kid Rock's opinion on anything. His taste in whores is even suspect.

Gwendolyn: Everyone is entitled to their political opinion, even signers, actors, and garbageman. Just because they have more money and influence than most people doens't mean they stop having them.

No, it just means, often, that they are using their power to influence things they are ignorant about, and convincing people that since they played the President in a mini-series, they must therefore know what is right for the country. Which, sadly, too many people lap up as truth.

Dubya's_Coke_Dealer 2008-08-27 12:20:43 PM

BobtheFascist: Having an opinion is one thing. Imposing it from a bully pulpit to an audience that is only there to see you perform is another. It needs to be appropriate to the time, place & venue.

Yeah, see, the First Amendment says that I get to choose the time, place and venue for expressing my opinions. Celebrities are Americans and have just as much right to express their opinions as the rest of us, be it Jon Voigt or the Dixie Chicks. The fact that some people can't handle hearing dissenting opinions says more about them than it does about the dissenter.

Doc Daneeka 2008-08-27 12:21:11 PM
DamnYankees: Why aren't celebrities allowed to have political opinions?

Because the out-of-touch Hollywood elitist limousine liberals, obviously.

Celebrities shouldn't be allowed the First Amendment freedom of expression rights accorded to every other American citizen. Unless they are country singers supporting Republican candidates. Then it's all OK. Duh. Haven't you been paying attention?

They only know how to bash Bush and lie about the lack of funding for aids research. They cannot tell you what the democratic plan is for this country. BTW, what is their plan, since the whole party's MO is to bash Bush?
